FAM is the best Apple show by a country mile. In a crowded field. It was one of the earliest Apple shows too which is partly why people have missed it. It's sublime. The next series should hit soon. I saw somewhere they were making a companion series from the Russian perspective. I hope that's true.

Slow Horses and Down Cemetary Road are infinitely better. Pluribus is derivative and poorly paced. It's nowhere near the quality of some of Apple's other Sci Fi/fantasy output.

Whenever there's a thread like this I realise that, actually, I *can* be more worried about the future than I previously was.

Also haven't you got a trove of awards for being...a journalist?
December 29, 2025 at 1:20 PM
I thought that journalist was the collective name for the different writing roles in a ...journal? So, there's editor, columnist, news report, sports reporter, critics, reviewers...whatever...but you are all collectively journalists? Cos of being paid cold hard cash to write in a journal?

The nutty thing is you are not self identified at all. You're *employer* identified. The various publications you have worked for that have paid you to be a journalist have made you one. You're a journalist. You write, in news publications, for money. You earned that nickname/job description.

I've never been to Caravan (of course) but I'm not going to get the raging hump about it. Also I'm fairly sure that if you are in a job which has a role title (eg, I don't know...journalist?) and they pay you for it then that's what you are. A journalist. No so-called about it.

Everything ... except the news... is the best thing we have in this country. The arts, sport, factual content...literally everything they do apart from that one thing... is fabulous and better than you can find anywhere else in the world.

Stockport could be the geographical equivalent of midnight...

Is it a gremlins thing, do you think?

There was a great pub/club near there. Just past the cinema. I think it was called the bell... something like that.

There used to be a nice vegan cafe round that way. It's gone now. ☹️

I don't mind if Leeds chooses what happens in Leeds. What I do mind is that the wants and needs of *everywhere* northern are given priority over the wants and needs of where I live. Consequently most elected people here are now...not serious people. Who still care nothing for what we want. Or need.

I do love the Bakerloo line tho. It's so much comfier than eg the (wonderful) Lizzy line. It's like the issue with the real trains... the new ones? Require people to have a lot of...personal padding...for the seats to not be torture. The lovely old intercity trains had seat padding as standard.

I love Ragnarok. In fact, now you've reminded me it exists, I might introduce a late contender for this evening's entertainment... bit of a contrast to last night (Phantom thread) but variety is spicy.

If somebody told me they liked my ears I'd run for the hills. Despite have a fucked up knee.

I asked J (for it was he who made me sit through avatar 1 so very many times) if he'd seen Avatar 2 and he just looked at me as if I had gone mad. He has not seen it and has no plans to. Same goes for any and all subsequent films. It actually kinda makes me feel sad. Ah well.

I just had a look at the Wikipedia page. After about two seconds I concluded that it all seems rather like hard work.

I only saw the first film. Admittedly several times (unwillingly after the first time). And I had no interest in seeing any more. But now I'm intrigued.

The only podcasts I listen to are kermode and mayo. I don't know if they do video but if they do I don't have that feature turned on. They are radio! I cling to them because I'm clinging to the glory days of 5live and wittertainment.

It was bleak not having a special. ☹️ At least we are now less than a year away from the next episode, and I have big fin which I am eternally grateful for. Hope you and your family had a lovely Christmas... and I hope you will have a fabulous new year also.

Yes, I was aware the flu jab hasn't done the business. ☹️ The noro my other half had was especially awful, and it's the first time he's had it, ever. He had to visit a relative in hospital up country. And... Boom. Luckily the rest of us dodged that column. This time. It's a vile vile thing to have.
