The first DVD I ever purchased was the director-approved Criterion edition of Life of Brian. It was moderately expensive, but worth it.

Curious language for the "Python-approved" updated release; I wonder if the seal will be signed by Gilliam as stand-in approval Python, or some other indicator?

We will not be reposting every piece of hype about either Cole Escola's Miss Piggy movie nor Seth Rogan's Sabrina Carpenter Muppets special. But this one jumped out at me, as I really enjoyed Emma Stone not breaking kayfabe about the star of the movie she's producing.

If you want to stay up a little bit later, you can ring in the New Year again at 26:30 in SLEEPLESS IN SEATTLE, but it takes a few minutes longer for the absurdly luminous Carey Lowell to show up and Reiner himself to appear immediately thereafter.
Start the MGM Blu-Ray of WHEN HARRY MET SALLY... at 10:30:28 pm, and you'll have the same midnight countdown as Billy Crystal and Meg Ryan.

Do all that (it allows a minute between each film), and it'll be too late to pre-order this Rob Reiner retrospective shirt: www.pattilapel.com/products/cas...

The Jim Henson Company is having a 70th anniversary auction of some of their accumulated detritus via Julien's. A few of the items are from previous milestones, including this sketch by John Romita where a couple Marvel superheroes welcome the Muppets to "old age" for their 30th. Ah, Geritol jokes.

The Guardian's reliable for 50th anniversary retrospective glosses over the film's baked-in misogyny, which comes across very differently with the human Louise Fletcher standing in for all authority and women in a way Kesey's prose avoided. The film was always a compromise, but remains charismatic.

Many reposts of this, and well-deserved. When one just pastes the New Yorker link into the interface, the lede is, "The actor and singer discusses the origins of 'The Rocky Horror Picture Show,' his relationship with David Bowie, and the joy of working with Miss Piggy." Well, tet's cut to the chase:

Happy 50th anniversary to Three Days of the Condor, Robert Redford's fourth collaboration with director Sydney Pollack. Based on the book Six Days of the Condor — a Trivial Pursuit answer that always makes me laugh — the film was ranked 6th in Redford's entire filmography in 2019 by The Guardian.

Today is the 50th anniversary of the original theatrical release of Dog Day Afternoon. Its trans portrayal has received varying support over the decades, but it's about to be revived on Broadway in a new adaptation with Jon Bernthal and Ebon Moss-Bachrach. A long tail of both legacy and reputation.

I've encountered a lot of Vincent Price chat recently. I don't know why Everything's Coming Up Vinnie, but if you're done listening to Scott Aukerman talk about The Abominable Dr. Phibes, maybe you'll enjoy this recollection Price wrote for the Yale Review of how he fanboyed out over Greta Garbo.

These "Celebs answer reader questions" interviews can be very hodgepodge (or "hotchpotch", if we're going to be Anglophilic), but this one knocked it out of the park, both due to its rangy length and Idle's practiced but genuine answers. I'm in the tank for Python, obv., but I find him so endearing.
