‘The people we have been starving were already quite ill’ is an admission of guilt not a defense.

beyond the moral ghoulish ness I just don't understand the basic contention of how this is supposed to work as a defense. if a whole population of people was starving en masse, would one expect people with "pre-existing conditions" to be over or underrepresented amongst those who die first?

The former head of Israel's military intelligence just praised the deaths of innocents as "necessary...as a message for future generations." If we do nothing, we will have to tell our children that we stood idly by as millions of people were sent to their graves.

Ex-Israeli intelligence chief said 50 Palestinians must die for every 7 October victim
‘It does not matter if they are children,’ said Aharon Haliva in recorded comments calling the death toll ‘necessary’

Journalists covering the aid air drops say they have been warned by Israel not to film Gaza from the air or the air drops will stop. (Do they not want us to see the scale of the damage?)

“International journalists have not been allowed inside Gaza.”

A retired U.S. soldier who worked at Gaza aid delivery sites said, “What I witnessed in Gaza, I can only describe as a dystopian, post-apocalyptic wasteland. We, the United States, are complicit. We are involved, hand in hand, in the atrocities and the genocide that is currently undergoing in Gaza.”

This clip...I have no words.

Gaza Humanitarian Fund whistleblower Anthony Aguilar describes ordering pizzas for their site while Palestinians starve.

It is pretty noticeable that even as mainstream opinion on Israel and Gaza finally shifts, you don’t hear the Responsible Adults apologizing for punishing all the college kids protesting the atrocities. Quite the opposite in fact!

Americans' fear of #socialism is the greatest proof that if you want to destroy a country, all you have to do is destroy its education system.

Then just sit back and watch the uneducated jerks destroy everything in a domino effect.

#Mamdani has supporters all over Europe, yeah, he's that good! 💚

In addition to its expanding violence throughout the entire region, the Israeli military is still slaughtering Palestinians in Gaza — and it's counting on all of us to be too distracted to pay attention. We refuse to look away.

Reasons I won't vote (and will actively campaign against) Labor:
• support for US bombing Iran
• supporting Israel's #GazaGenocide
• pro-fossil fuels
• pro-gambling
• anti-environment
• failure to protect Indigenous sites 😢 #auspol

Nearly two million Palestinians, now forced into just 18% of the Gaza Strip, are enduring overcrowding, disease outbreaks and severe distress

Growing hardship especially for women and girls.

The UN, international rules based order is pretty much done. And Australia’s govt said not a word of compliant.

Might is right.

Albanese has not grasped that China, North Korea, Russia and anyone else can now claim the precedent of the Iran Bombing as justification for “pre-emptive” attacks.

If you were too young in 2003 here is what Bush told the American people:

1) The Iraq War won’t cost a lot of money
3) We won’t need a lot of troops
4) We’ll bring peace and freedom to Iraq
5) We’ll find WMDs
6) We’ll be welcomed as liberators
7) It will be easy
8) It won’t take long

All lies.

"The ease with which Israel was able to cut off virtually all movement in and out of Palestinian towns and cities, thanks to an apparatus of control that includes nearly 900 checkpoints and gates, highlights the extent of the occupation’s footprint in the West Bank."

With Iran war as pretext, Israel suffocates the West Bank
After striking Tehran, the army closed hundreds of gates to seal Palestinians inside towns and strand them on roads — proof of annexation in all but name.

Penny Wong, 2003: "I say suspicion is not enough. To justify going to war we need more than suspicion. What sort of world would we live in if suspicion alone was justification for participation in unilateral military action outside the auspices of the UN? "

So we were involved in this US-Iran strike, why bother dancing around the bush when all other countries have confirmed their lack of involvement
A lack of no just means 'yes, and you'll be upset if you knew the details'

What was Australia's role in Trump's attack on Iran? You're not allowed to know
Other US allies are being transparent with their people about any role their nation played in the attack on Iran. But from Australia's leaders? Crickets.

A new justification for the war on Iran dropped today from the IDF: that Iran was aiming to produce 10k ballistic missiles "by the end of the decade".
This only casts further doubts on the claim that Iran has been building nuclear weapons.

They learned lessons from Iraq. These lessons were:

- Don’t seek public consent
- Enforce your version of events
- Enforce it via media panics and physically by police, if required
- Never admit an error, let alone anything worse
- Instantly forget what you did: if possible, never refer to it again
Abi Wilkinson @AbiWilks
It's absolutely not 2003 again. They're going through the motions as a sort of ritual, but nobody in power gives a single fuck about securing public consent

I think this is a lot of why Brexit has become so symbolically important, and specifically reducing immigration as a sign of whether politicians are respecting the popular mandate.
It goes beyond anti-immigration sentiment for its own sake, which is obviously also v existent
