Mohamed's been thinking about this a lot recently.
It's never been safe for him to get close enough to their village to be able to see if there's anything left of it.

where can he go, and have the right to buy land, and own some head of sheep? and be happy?
bit.ly/help-mohamed figure this out.
We are fine, at least we are optimistic that the killing will stop, even if only for a short time. (8:01)

But I am the saddest of them all because I am certain that I will lose my land forever. (8:01)

My grandfather lived as a refugee in 1948. My father lived a relatively stable life. I will continue my life as a refugee. My children are refugees. I am thinking somewhat deeply. (8:03)

This is what I'm thinking these days (8:03)

mohamed ahmed: Hi I miss my sisters for a while (12:27)

I want to explain to you what would happen to me if the politicians agreed to this plan. (12:28)

I need to get the pain out of my heart in this conversation. (edited 12:28)

mohamed ahmed: I ask myself, will my children and I live the life of refugees? (12:29)

Will I be able to buy land for me and them and plant its love in their hearts just as I love my land? (12:31)

Can Abdullah own sheep? (12:31)

My friends, I have written words that came from my heart to your hearts. Please open the pictures and read what I wrote. There are no secrets between brothers. Read how your friend’s life has become. The issue has become bigger than donations and money.

Hello my brothers / I have some words that I must say from the beginning when I was displaced from Rafah I had great hope to return to my land which is located near the Philadelphi axis where my house, sheep and trees are. I was planning to rebuild everything from scratch with donations and I will not hide from you a secret that I was saving part of the money I received from donations to rebuild that. I was planning to connect water and build wooden or tin houses and connect water and start planting olive trees and buy 10 sheep and start establishing a herd and life goes on. / But a few days ago I saw Trump's plan to end the war. I was surprised that the plan includes a buffer zone on the Philadelphi axis and this news was like a thunderbolt for me. My land that my grandfather inherited from me, I will never return to it / Politicians are planning without considering the psychological and material damage that will befall me and my family as a result of this plan / I want to ask you, is this fair? Of course not / I will say something in the end. I swear that now I do not have an alternative plan for all this tragedy that I have been exposed to / I will honestly tell everyone that from now on I am not collecting money to buy food and tents / Rather, I am collecting money for something bigger than that. Now I must provide a better future for my children after their and was occupied / All I want from vou is for vou to understand what …

Now I must provide a better future for my children after their land was occupied / All I want from you is for you to understand what I am saying with your hearts and minds / What will I say to my seventy-year-old mother? Will I tell her that you will not return to your trees?
Or will I tell her that you will end up displaced from a tent that is not fit to live in? Or will I tell her that we must leave Gaza and go to another country? / Believe me, I am writing words that come from my heart to your hearts / You are my community that has always stood by me for many long months / That is enough because I write and cry

pre-genocide, @maratan-ukhraa.bsky.social raised Awassi sheep, but he has a slight…obsession with the Shetland. before the blockade took all his money to feed his family, we used to imagine where he could live that would let him import a few head of shetland for a new flock.
hence the shetland lambs

i was just…shown a CBS broadcast that implied the iof had ceased-firing, which made me want to scream, seeing as how they bombed the hell out of khan yunis today, in addition to gaza city.

to avoid crying, i made @maratan-ukhraa.bsky.social this "comic" (transl. in alt text)

الأحوان شتلاند في
"العام المقبل في بئر السبع"

three shetland lambs stand together on a very gentle grass-covered slope. From right, they are dark brown, medium brown and white, and white with a dark nose. the sun is low in the sky and coming from behind them.

each lamb has a text balloon. the smallest, brownest sheep says,
أخي، هل سنذوق
عشب النقب
الحلو مرة أخرى؟
the middle sheep, agreeing, continues:
نعم، هل
سيأخذنا الراعي في الربيع؟

and the largest, all-white sheep says,
أيها الإخوة، يوماً ما سنتمكن من تذوق كل أعشاب فلسطين الحرة
الحلوة.
he also has a little heart with the palestinian flag filled in. The photographer's credit الصورة: كارين روم is in the bottom right corner.

The Shetland Brothers in
"Next Year in Bi'r as-Sab`"

first lamb: "Brother, shall we taste the sweet grass of the Negev again?"
second lamb: "Yes, shall the shepherd take us in the spring?”
third lamb: "“Brothers, one day we shall be able to taste all the sweet grasses of free Palestine."

It's lambing season in Gaza; during the last one before evacuatioooon, Sami got to bottle-feed & care for his very own lamb until it was ready for wean . It was a dream for him, just like his father.
we can raise enough to get the family through another winter and start again bit.ly/help-mohamed

I helped them with some money, but the problem is the place

we can't find a place that can accommodate a tent and a bathroom.

A meter of wood costs 20 shekels. Available but expensive.
A 4x5 awning costs 400 shekels.
We need 3 awnings.

Below the post, a photo of Abdullah in the small farm, wearing a black t-shirt and black shorts, bare feet, standing before an enormous potted yakteen gourd plant, focusing hard on poking around an old can. his black hair looks a bit dusty, and his bent head makes his brown cheeks look rounder than usual

9/2013 KAS INTERNATIONAL REPORTS

The difference between sulh and tribal law can best be explained by looking at their respective representatives: A tribal judge, representing tribal law, is a person who specialises in solving disputes presented to him, through issuing a final verdict to both parties that is based on tribal urf, and through the accreditation of proofs and conjectures presented to him by the parties to the disputes. An islah man, representing the tribal sulh, is a person who seeks to solve conflicts between two parties through bridging the gap between their points of view, utilising his personal qualities such as the ability to convince, eloquence and good reputation in order to achieve a conciliatory outcome to the demands of the parties to the disputes, relying on a number of sources, mostly urf. The term islah stems from the sulha (reconciliation). The final settlement of the case is then called Saq Al-Sulh.

it’s not just that he has to feed his children, build snug tin houses, prepare for winter
as the genocide rages on, he has to hold onto his own identity, set an example as a leader

Today I asked myself some questions.
First, where is my city, Rafah? It is occupied. Second, where is my village?
It is occupied. Third, where am I? I am displaced in the Mawasi camp. Fourth, what is my future? I don't know. Fifth, in a year from now, what will my life be like? There is no answer.

mohamed's internet was 〽️, or he would've posted on his new²³ account, @maratan-ukhraa.bsky.social.

in 2024, he spent about $7k to built the tin+wood house with reinforced scrap metal.
in 2025, that house without scrap metal will cost about double. but after a year of starving…

two pages from Abdullah's school notebook. the assignment is to color the curves "bright bright," and is meant to illustrate the difference between a lower curve, on the left, and a "top curve," on the right. Abdullah has colored the lower curve blue and the top curve pink. One page of Abdullah's notebook; at the top, the teacher has written "up to the top," and Abdullah has written eight times the same U shape that he had on the earlier page colored in blue. the teacher has written something else that I can't find a reasonable translation of, apologies.

a blurry digit pulls back a young, frilly, bright green zucchini leaf to reveal two healthy buds, with what looks like more leaves and potential buds growing from the stem. the larger, darker leaves, which offer the buds and baby leaves shade, are partly in fame, and the sand beneath is a blue of various browns.

compared to every other photo taken in Gaza today, it looks like hope. a blurry digit almost out of frame holds a big, dark green zucchini leave out of the way, to take a slightly blurry photo of a zucchinii bud. the plant itself looks healthy and green, withh what looks like another bud concealed behind a stem to this bud's left, and fresh, new baby leaves growing around them.
