According to the Register, Hustler had issues refused classification for depicting women with small breasts. If a peace of media is refused classification it is not legal to publish in Australia.

There has to be a movie about cops who play by the rules out there somewhere. Otherwise people would get the wrong idea about real cops. Almost half of the cops even have a spotless record (google 40% cops).

The regulations cover imitations with no moving parts, so they don't even need to fire blanks. The whole thing could be rubber. I doubt it's that enforced though, otherwise every cosplayer would be in a bunch of trouble.

My assumption is this is barely enforced, but the biggest impact aside from the "I think it looks cool" group would probably be the added red tape for anyone using one in an artistic endeavour. The Viva La Dirt League comedy guys would have a lot of extra cost, for example.

But also an object with no moving parts isn't going to kill anyone unless you hit them over the head with it, and requiring $75 to own one for five years and keeping it a safe that has to be attached to your home seems really silly. I could jigsaw a gun shape from wood and be technically in breech.

It's a hard balance, because I 100% agree that they should require a license and compliant storage, limited to certain amounts, types an configuration. I also agree that should you use something shaped like a gun in a crime, you should be charged like it is a gun.

You need a permit in NSW to own something that just looks like a gun even if it doesn't have moving parts.

My favourite thing is its always the converts who know this stuff and the guy who grew up Catholic for 40 years looks at them like they're insane. (And converts usually are insane with strong opinions on shit like Vatican II)

I guess you'd want Catholics to also believe that during the Eucharistic Prayer the bread actually becomes flesh or that maybe that poor people aren't total pieces of shit and deserve charity too. Gross.
