Everyone that says “we never thought this would happen” needs to work on their imagination. The terrible things happening now that’ll probably only get worse are all eminently thinkable if you remember that a significant number of people in the U.S. consider you their enemy.

The “strongest” presidents in U.S. history neutralized or whipped into compliance their respective legislatures. Trump (and/or his handlers) may have come at the problem from a different angle, but the goal is the same.
