These conservatives "interpreting" the "true meaning" or "intended meaning" of these documents often feels like just an attempt to to have the final word on how society will be run.

so much of the conservative legal revolution seems to outright reject the idea that democratic publics legitimately constituted can fix the meaning of the constitution without formal amendment.

the president is not an elected sovereign. he does not speak for the people or embody their will, he merely represents them. if he wants to change the constitution, let him make his case.

This is more than evil because you have to surrender whatever legal status you held BEFORE the oath ceremony.
You pass the citizenship test and surrender your document (i.e. green card) and only AFTER the oath ceremony (usually a couple of weeks after your test/interview) you become a citizen.
