Gonna remind the whole of Bluesky, again, that journalistic norms of saying “Texas is doing this” and “Texas is doing that”, (when it’s the TX GOP only) cedes an entire population to white supremacy and erases the opposition that also represents Texas and the Texans that would be victimized.

In case people shrug, because they think cuts to VA don’t directly affect them…
The VA does more than care for veterans. 70% of US doctors train in one. VAs also perform research—creating the pacemaker, Hep C cure, shingles vaccine, just to name a few. Civilians were cared for during the COVID pandemic. Whatever you feel about vets or war, the loss of the VA affects all of us.

If you wanna learn more about immune amnesia this is a good primer from the American Society for Microbiology.

Measles binds to your immune system’s memory cells and infects them, effectively erasing their database. It then produces all new memory cells - that contain info ONLY for measles.
Measles and Immune Amnesia | ASM.org
Measles is much more serious than a rash and fever: it also causes immune amnesia and leaves patients especially vulnerable to secondary infection.

Need an artist in LA? The replies have gotchu!
Looking for an *L.A. based* artist who (against all odds) has time for a poster gig before the end of the year.

It's for a science + art event.

We can offer $500 for the gig.

Dreadfully sorry about the timeline. Link a portfolio if you're interested, I'll delete this post when we found someone.

In 1993, Trump signed a mortgage for a Florida home, pledging it would be his principal residence. Seven weeks later, he attested a neighboring property would also be his principal residence.

In reality, he does not seem to have lived in either home.

More innocent lives stolen due to senseless gun violence.

It’s long overdue that we treat this gun violence epidemic as the public health crisis it is.

Mia Tretta was shot in the stomach in Santa Clarita in 2019 and watched her best friend be murdered.

And now…again.

About 4,000 yards of handspun singles. This is warp for an upcoming blanket weaving project. I need another 1,000 yards or so of warp, then 3-4,000 for the filling. Thinking about spinning the weft yarns on a great wheel. Wool from my flock.

Spent the day with a friend, re-learning how to use an SLR 35mm film camera. Several, actually, all from her late father’s 1970s professional set. Took us a while to figure out how to open ‘em, rewind ‘em and set f stops. Monday I’ll get the film developed.

Even during the catastrophic flooding we saw this week, that same flood wall protected downtown Mount Vernon.

Me to same owl handler: "Owls are super wise, right? They read loads of highbrow Russian literature and stuff, don't they?"

Owl handler: "No, they actually have very tiny brains, due to the hugeness of their eyes. In reality they are one of the thickest animals you could ever meet."
