I want all reviews, good or bad, to recognise the amazing amount of accurate tree knowledge in the novel. I want to be offered an honoury Tree Degree by Oxford University. No pressure 😘 🤣

All this flu-fuelled tree research is for about two paragraphs for Closing Time, btw, and most of it will probably be completely unnecessary, so I hope y’all pay close attention to it when it comes.

Being with trees reduces stress. (Less a tree fact, more a me fact: I am a literal tree hugger. Love hugging trees.)

One species of tree has been around since the Jurassic period! 🦕

Trees are essentially immortal, if left to their own devices.

Trees can help scientists record and understand climate change as their rings contain data about environmental changes.

Bark is amazing!!! Without it, trees basically wouldn’t have survived the move out of the oceans. It allows them to grow really high and thus get all the sun goodness and protects them.

Trees communicate with other trees via a fungal systems underground. Mushrooms and trees! Awesome!

Some tree facts:

Most of the tree is dead. The only living bit is a really thin layer of, basically, stem cells that manage everything.

The dead cells create the bark.

Trees are fascinating!! I read The Secret Life of Trees years ago and think I’ll reread it as all I have now are more questions than answers. Am fully down the tree rabbit hole. Trabbit hole.
