every day i wake up in britain
"the grove" is one of the highlights of season 4, and one of the most iconic episodes in the series. a self-contained but highly emotional and disturbing story which some great acting from Melissa McBride.

"alone" is another pretty solid episode as we start to get a better idea of how all the various plotlines this season will finally collide. Bob is a very likeable character, and I like the mini subplot about the mortician giving walkers a more dignified end.

There was a time where "Still" was considered the worst episode of the whole show, but honestly it's fine. I do think it puts a bit too much focus on Daryl's grief at the expense of Beth (the start of a somewhat frustrating trend with Daryl) but it's otherwise quite a nice little detour.

"Claimed" is a really good episode, introducing us to Abraham, Eugene, and Rosita, who each quickly become important figures to the group. Rick hides under a bed for most of the episode but it's very tense. This is also a really good season for Michonne as she gets to open up a bit more.

"Inmates" has some very silly moments mainly involving tyreese and the kids, and a very clunkily handled fate for the remaining woodbury refugees. it's otherwise a nice catch up episode with most of the characters post-prison, and Terminus remains one of the most compelling arcs in the show.

to be honest i've never really cared much about carl as a character, but "After" is a pretty decent opener to season 4's second half, showing him trying to convince himself he can survive alone while Rick recovers from his injuries. there's also a nice subplot revealing more about michonne's past.

"too far gone" is easily in the top 3 episodes of the series. finally delivers on season 3B's fumbled setup with one of the show's most iconic episodes, and brings the prison era to an end.

"dead weight" is a bit weaker than the other episodes this season. pretty much just serving as a bridge into the mid-season finale. I feel like they could have compressed the governor storyline here and given us some more time with the main group in this one.
February 13, 2026 at 11:23 AM
i don't think we needed to spend two full episodes away from the main group to catch up with the governor, but i still really like the first part of his story. it plays with the idea of redeeming the governor in a way that feels natural, even knowing what comes in the following episodes.

"internment" is a genuinely phenomenal episode but not one people talk about a lot. contrasting carol's ruthless actions in previous episodes with hershel's risky yet compassionate approach to treating the flu victims is a great way to bring this mini-arc to a close.
February 9, 2026 at 2:07 PM
carol has one of the most interesting character arcs this season as she adopts a cold, pragmatic approach to solving problems. her actions are somewhat understandable, but so is rick's decision to banish her from the group as a consequence.
February 9, 2026 at 2:00 PM
it's intense seeing life in the prison start to break down from within as the group realises how unprepared they were for something like the flu. no major deaths during this arc but it still does well at making you feel a sense of dread as the prison becomes an increasingly hostile environment.

we are making purchases we perhaps shouldn't be making when saving for a mortgage deposit

maybe i've still got it
February 8, 2026 at 7:57 PM
people are a bit mixed on the flu storyline but i think it's neat seeing the group deal with a more "natural" threat between the usual walkers and hostile survivors. it's also effective at highlighting rick's complacency, and the reality of the prison being an unsustainable long-term refuge.
February 7, 2026 at 3:01 PM
the season premiere is a nice little "reset" for the series, jumping forward a few months and showing the prison as a now thriving community. it does a good job of establishing everyone's arcs for the next few seasons - notably rick's vision for the future, and carol's need to protect the group
February 7, 2026 at 2:58 PM
that's season 3 finished. one of the strongest first halves across the entire show let down by a largely meandering, aimless second half, carried mainly by the strong cast and general "aura" of the prison era. still a great watch overall.

8.5/10

"welcome to the tombs" isn't terrible but it's one of the most disappointing season finales. completely fails to deliver on the very thing the season has been building towards. rick's selfless decision at the end does round off the last 3 seasons of character development quite nicely, however.
February 6, 2026 at 11:47 AM
finally the writers remembered they had a story to progress. the penultimate episode of the season has rick and merle handle a difficult dilemma culminating in a sort-of redemption for the latter. also nice to see more of michonne after being somewhat sidelined in this half of the season.

It's crazy that these things just hang out in various spots in the United Kingdom but no one ever talks about it
February 5, 2026 at 7:41 PM
unfortunately the episode that follows is another andrea-centric one, and one which accomplishes even less than "i ain't a judas" did. the governor becoming a bit of a slasher villain is kinda fun though.
February 3, 2026 at 12:51 PM
"arrow on the doorpost" feels like more stalling but it's at least more interesting stalling than other episodes in this half-season. it's cool seeing rick's group and woodbury finding common ground while rick and the governor negotiate. but this season really needs to get a move on.

we love making shiv players eat shit

i would stop playing infernus forever if this happened to me
February 2, 2026 at 4:28 PM
by contrast "clear" is one of the best episodes of the season. a very small-scale character driven episode highlighting the importance of the family unit rick has created. lennie james gives one of the best performances in the show as a broken, grieving morgan.
