So this happened. Managing not to jump up and down squealing. Just about. Huge thanks to @dancarpenter.bsky.social and Greyhound Literary for taking a punt on a working class kid. #fantasy #amwriting #amwritingfantasy

I bet when you first read #Dune you didn’t realise that you’d end up on the side of the #ButlerianJihad.

Asked my partner to buy in some paracetamol. Need to keep my #autism topped up.

Might just be my #autism, but I think #liquidglass is easily my least favourite OS overhaul ever especially on macos.
The mismatch between the rounded corners of the windows and squared off edges of the screen just looks like no-one thought this through properly.

Thanks, Daniel. Only just spotted this!

A very happy birthday to @felipeazucares.bsky.social!

Why not pre-order his debut multiversal London fantasy novel from @titanbooks.bsky.social LIGHTHOUSE AT THE END OF THE WORLD? It's the Mark Fisher/VE Schwab mashup you never knew you needed.

Absolutely! I think ARCs are just about ready, so If you DM me an address I can get one out to you.

Yes, that’s a really interesting thought. Conversely, I think quite a bit of classical high-fantasy tends to reinforce social orders and hierarchies (e.g. CS Lewis or Tolkien) but there’s also plenty that uses those tropes as a prism to challenge them.

As you can see, I have a lot of thoughts about this and the relative dearth of wc protagonists in fantasy which is one of the things I'm trying to address with Lighthouse at the End of the World.

2) there's still alas a lot of snobbery around genre fiction, underpinned, essentially by the idea that if a book is entertaining it can't be literature and is only fit for "mass" consumption. 3)Speculative fiction in general is brilliant vehicle for challenging stereotypes, but can also reinforce them

That's fab, will send a pitch in Jan. Great question! From personal experience, I think there's perhaps a few of things at work, 1) the sense that you can explore a narrative world where the social construction is different, but then, ironically, quite a lot of classical fantasy is a bit regressive.

Would love to work together too! Oddly enough, I had a non-fiction pitch worked up for you a couple of days back, but saw that you were closed for submissions right now.

#Season7 of #Buffy is mostly just Sarah Michelle Geller repeatedly auditioning for the “world’s most demotivating public speaker” award.
