Currently reading "Gathering Moss" by Robin Wall Kimmerer. She explains how there's very little air movement in the thin layer where mosses live so they have to send their sporophytes a few milllimeters higher to catch the breeze.

More images from @pacifiplankton.bsky.social this time of hornwort spores! These start off as a tetrad and break apart. Thinking these belong to Paraphymatoceros pearsonii, also growing on the Stanford campus. @diatomsattack.bsky.social @sfmicrosociety.org

November - Bazzania trilobata

This was a lovely large liverwort of humid woodland to find for the first time and marks the best find for November. Ness Country Park in Derry was really productive for temperate rainforest species and will be worth returning to.

Lepicolea scolopendra, a leafy liverwort from cold, mesic habitats, including amongst snow. The type collection in 1791 required the circumscription of Lepicoleaceae. It has upright and pendent forms; which has confused authors over the years. #liverwort #bryophytes #AustralianFlora #TasFlora
