So, I learnt a thing.

I bought this fabric with the wash-off grid dots because I thought it would make it easier.

What actually happened is that it makes it more difficult to stitch in a way that suits me. It either threw off my own comfortable stitching… 1/3 🧵

I think I’m about 95% of the way to having these patterns finalised for the #sashiko table runner I’m planning to make for my mum.

I didn’t draw all of the linked plovers (middle of the lined up drawings) because I don’t have the 1cm circle template yet that I need, and drawing circles is hard. 🤣
On a grey couch we see five almost square pieces of paper lined up in a row. Each piece of paper has a sashiko pattern hand drawn on it in pencil. This is probably the finalised order in which they’ll be stitched onto a long table runner. From left to right: 1. Shippō tsunagi; a series of circles almost all linked on four sides so that the shapes that ‘pop’ could be flowers, diamonds, or circles. 2. Kakuyose; linked square frames (that is, one small square inside another) that make it appear as though there are crosses inside some squares, and that there are squares within squares. 3. Chidori tsunagi; a pattern that is repeating whereby a sort of square star shape has a curve at each point so that they look a bit bird-like. Each edge of the shape forms part of the next shape. In this example, only one row of birds is completed, one connected below the first line on the very next, and one at each corner. The person who drew these didn’t continue hand drawing each curve because of the lack of a suitable template. 4. Tsuno kikkō; slightly squashed hexagons cover the paper, and almost all corners where the hexagons meet have a small protrusion. When this is stitched in running stitch, each intersection will look like a tiny flower. 5. Tate waku; six wavy lines rise from the bottom to the top of the paper, each bend going in the opposite direction to the one next to it. Each bend has a small curved line next to the outside, reflecting the original curve. Between each curved line is a dotted line. The meaning of the name is ‘rising steam’ and it very much resembles that name. Behind the lined up papers, we see a cushion half covering a small white dog with a bright pink collar. Was considering this for ages and finally caved and bought it. It’s definitely patterns and info I could find in other places (like searching online), but to have it physically in one’s hand and to lay out various patterns beside each other is great.

The relevant part is that the ‘edit’ button has been tapped for changing my birthday to show that I’m an adult to prove to the ridiculous social media ban for under 16s in Australia, and a message at the bottom popped up that says, ‘You recently changed your birthdate. There is a limit to how often you can change your birthdate. You may need to wait a day or two before updating it again.’ Spoiler alert: I did not recently change my birthdate.

This is the inside of the same denim shorts. I used fabric from a very thin and light, pale green t-shirt to reinforce the fabric and as a backing for the sashiko stitching.

My stationery arrived!

An A5 refillable notebook binder, a grid ruler with 5mm grid marks and a metal edge for cutting, a mechanical pencil that looks a bit like a normal wooden pencil, and a matching mesh case for the notebook and pencil. 😊

Also, this is the notebook I got that takes loose leaf papers, and I chose a dot grid for drawing sashiko. It’s A5.

Adding some fabric to the inside of the left side of my shorts today before that worn spot tears through. It’s _very_ close.

I’m glad I noticed before it actually tore.

I’ll reinforce it today and maybe start some sashiko in the next few days.

Both inner thighs on my jeans are now sort-of-visibly, somewhat invisibly repaired. Woot!

Now I can wear them again without worrying about a major blowout. Yay!

A subtle repair to one inner thigh of a pair of my two most comfy jeans.

The fabric stitched to the inside goes all the way across to the pocket in the background, and is stitched with small stitches in and around the other hole near the pocket. I’ll do #sashiko over that tear soon.

I just bought some stationery from MUJI, and I’m excited for it to arrive. I haven’t bought stationery for years because I never ended up using it, despite loving it.

They are looking to make a ‘sprang hairnet’. But they haven’t been able to find much info.

I’ve come to the dark side and I bought (at almost half price; woot!) an air fryer.

This one isn’t super large, but it’s perfect for us as we move around from house to house doing house and pet sitting.

There’s one hedgehog!

The only problem with making a needle book out of such adorable fabric is that I don’t want to stab the cute animals with the needles. 🤣
