Could we—for fun, for science, darlings take your pick—but could we talk about what we’re doing in a geeky joyful nerdout way even if it’s small or is that too much like bragging or some inscrutable social code i don’t understand

things that please you inordinately. I got to try olive oil soap! 🤩
So, it’s not entirely bad. It saves a _lot_ of time when working on a non-square grid.

Am I mistaken in thinking that I’m amongst a vast majority who hate AI? Am I just in a bubble of people who hate AI? Am I wrong in thinking that businesses are pushing AI even when everyone hates it?

A thread worth reading. But even this one post matters. Please turn on the alt text setting under ‘accessibility’.
The thing about the setting to make alt text mandatory is that Bluesky didn't bother making that the default.

Like, you have to by default opt-in to see sexually suggestive images, so they clearly know how powerful default configs are, but for alt text they've never cared enough.

So, I learnt a thing.

I bought this fabric with the wash-off grid dots because I thought it would make it easier.

What actually happened is that it makes it more difficult to stitch in a way that suits me. It either threw off my own comfortable stitching… 1/3 🧵

The next step for these is to stitch a practice piece of each pattern before completely finalising how they’ll look.

I might make the linked plovers pattern (chidori tsunagi) one row shorter, or perhaps have the edges of them fade out to match the sizing better.

#sashiko #CraftSky #australian 🧶
I think I’m about 95% of the way to having these patterns finalised for the #sashiko table runner I’m planning to make for my mum.

I didn’t draw all of the linked plovers (middle of the lined up drawings) because I don’t have the 1cm circle template yet that I need, and drawing circles is hard. 🤣

This is very interesting. Made by an autistic creator, by the way. Something to think about for the more articulate ND people in your circle.

It’s so cool that every website is just Like This now. We used to send guys to the chair for putting pop-up ads on their sites. Now if I want to read something I have to read single lines between autoplaying video ads that use so much RAM they force the browser to reload every 5 seconds.

Ok this is important. A big myths
out there is that studies show masks don’t work. When you look at what the studies measured, what they actually show is masks don’t work *if you don’t wear them.* They didn’t measure the tool, they measured the wearers behavior. www.independent.co.uk/news/health/...

When I was a kid, I used to feel like I’d have to take the same path back and forth around objects in my house or I’d cause some kind of tangle in an imaginary string that was trailing along behind me.
Post a random fact, of little importance, about you.

I was once pictured with my parents, in the local newspaper, for knowing how to use chopsticks.

The last 24 hours or so have been a strong reminder to me that you need to remember what YOUR agenda is, and not to be distracted responding to ideas that drag you away from it.

Denouncing the wrong isn't helpful most of the time. Spreading the right is better.

I find it interesting (and frustrating) that our creativity can suffer due to tiredness/exhaustion, etc.

I guess being creative and expending that creative energy takes more brain power than the basics of survival with the need for sleep, food, etc.

It makes sense, I guess. Survival comes first.

This is the first time I’m fully planning something like this. I’ve done drawings for the patterns and I’ll do another drawing of each one before I even cut the fabric.

I have four of the five #sashiko patterns finalised for the table runner I’m making for my mum. The fifth pattern, I may yet change my mind on it.

I’m currently trying to adapt it a bit to be less dense. If I can’t get it right, I have a different one in mind. 1/2 🧵

There’s a lesson for you. Always buy the ruler!
Not buying the extra ruler was a mistake. It has the extract size circle template on it that I need.

D’oh!

Was considering this for ages and finally caved and bought it. It’s definitely patterns and info I could find in other places (like searching online), but to have it physically in one’s hand and to lay out various patterns beside each other is great.

The machine at eye exams where you have to look at a hot air balloon or such, is called an autorefractor.

It works simply: you focus on something bright at a known simulated distance, it shoots infrared light into your eye to measure the refraction happening.
