Today I finished and framed a tatting project that is very near and dear to me. And hopefully my mom. The small doilies are based off my and my brothers baby blankets that out mom crocheted. The large one is based on blankets she made for us when we each moved out. It is her Christmas present.
A black long frame with three doilies. Two small ones of the same pattern one of light purple, light green, light yellow, and white. The other is dark blue, jewel purple, sage green, and white. The largest in the middle is navy blue, gold, dark gray, and off white.

The last part on my mom's present is on the last row! Hopefully I can get it all done in time to block the tatting and frame it before Christmas

This is another tatting project I've been working on! I had hopped to submit it to the fair but I had to fix so may mistakes I just didn't get it done. But here's the half way point!

This is a doily I made and submitted to the state fair where I live! I wanted to submit more but wasn't sure I would be able to and it was limited to one this size. My larger ones just weren't done in time

Within the stone cottage, Odan was already awake. The rising sun streamed in through the window he was standing before it as he dressed. He’d found Morgans trunk of clothes, some of which where fortunately far too big for the scrawy fisher, but fit Odan well enough. He’d put on some trousers and was in the process of doing a poor job of tying the sash around his hips to keep them up. He then took from the trunk a woollen fisher’s jumper, though he did not put it on just yet. The embers of the fire place were now low, and the broth in the pot hanging above it had gone cold. Odan tilted the pot with one finger and examined the content. With a look of disgust he studied the concealed soup on his fingers and concluded that he would not be consuming it. Instead he unsheathed the filleting knife hanging on the mantle piece and departed for the coast. Once at the sand, Odan dropped the woollen jumper of the rocks, and before the rays of the morning sun he walked out into the sea with the filleting knife.

When the morning came, the sky above the puddles of selkies, laying on kelp covered rocks again, was pink. A soft warm glow with only a smear of blue starting to show itself over the cosy heaps. The pups were, once again, up early, and had found a new object of curiosity in the absent of their usual big bull. A human, a skinny human with fluffy auburn hair and a nose very unlike theirs. Selkies had shallow, smooth noses that sat close to the face, with slits for nostrils that closed when they went under water. This human however had a beaky nose, with a pronounced bridge and nostrils which would most certainly help him drown. This was one of very many interesting thing the pups had noticed about their new play thing, and as such, one pup had seated itself on the sleeping humans shoulder and was giving the nose a thorough examination while a second pup leant on the humans chest, watching intently. The exploring pup then wondered about the teeth of their new entertainment, and had stuck it’s thumb in the human’s mouth when said human’s eyes fluttered open. Morgan sat up, holding the fluffy pup as he did so and becoming totally and delightfully fixated on it. It held his nose as he stared at it in wonder, while the other pup leaning on his chest peaked into his mouth and saw his very blunt teeth; not like selkie teeth at all. There were also more pups around beyond the probing two, all very pleased by the reaction and attention of the human. It was as Morgan took in the other pups, many of which were lounged over his legs, that the most important detail of the morning hit him like last nights rock. He didn’t have any legs. What he apparently had instead was a considerably sized, brown, selkie tail. Except that he knew that he couldn’t, not only because the tail was the colour and pattern of the selkie bull’s pelt, but because he, Morgan, was not a selkie. Despite this reasoning the flipper did flicked up in reaction to his wanting to move his legs. A sketch of The Holly King, God of the short cold days, with sharp antlers like winter trees and a silver crown of holly leaves. He’s dressed in medieval garb which includes a cloak wrapped around his shoulders, on top of which sits a thick black fur cloak, fastened to his shoulders with a silver holly brooches & chains draping across his chest. Under this he wears a surcoat over a long sleeved tunic which is close fitting on his thin arms and wrist. These 2 garments are collected by a wide belt that cinches his narrow waist, on top of which hangs 2 more leather belts, loose around his hips. The most notable feature of the kings attire is his neck armour, whose metal circles his shoulders from the collar bone to the neck which it corsets around in a firm fit. It’s engraved with sharp spikes of holly leaves & makes his posture tall & austere. The king has a calculating expression as he studies the sharpness of his sword that he holds before him. He is going to kill the Oak King with it.

Morgan sunk into the dark green depths, in a slow cascade of moonlit bubbles. His auburn hair flowing around his head and his knitwear and woven belt floating up with his sinking momentum down between the drifts of kelp and further away from the light.

To desperate to pause and put any shoes on, Morgan rushed out to stop the assault on his little boat. The men were cutting up his net, snapping the oars and violently dissembling the vessel. He drove through them to defend the dinghy but was roughly shouldered aside by one fisherman. That same fisherman then took the rock that he’d been employing to smash the boat and cracked Morgan over the temple with it, instantly knocking him out and felling him limply to the damp grass with a trickle of blood dripping from his forehead. The trawlers men then hoisted up Morgan’s scrawly body and dropped it off the rocks into the high tide. There his body splashed into the blackness and promptly vanished.

Between all the people, two men have seen each other. A tall brown man, with a mane of curly black hair, wearing a knitted rainbow duster, looks over his shoulder with the confusion of a clouded memory. He has arms full of shopping in paper bag, herbs, flowers and bottles, he has to be on his way and the crowd is moving, but still he lingers as he looks at the other man. The other man is small, thin, freckled and has a shock of red hair that is firey in the dawn light, he is taking the hood of his green jersey like he is going to pull it over his head, but before he does he looks back at the second man. The heaviness of his heart and thin hope are evident in his face.

Once again the morning was a bleak, friendless contrast to the nights revelry. Morgan lay in a spiritless state, under his quilted blanket, without any real desire to rise to his isolated stone cottage. Eventually however, he did get up, and once again got dressed and sat alone at his table where he drank his both in the cold dawn light. Then he went fishing. There was no Niamh this time. Just the sound of the sea and the sun slowly rising behind the blue clouds. And there was the usual meager catch of fish, but it was enough. When the night came Morgan had lapsed into a mute despair. He stood, still wearing his woolen fishing jersey and woven belt, before the glowing embers of his fireplace, wanting for his broth to warm; a despondent figure in the dim stony dwelling.

Posted this a while ago then "organized" my threads and lost the gray one I needed. Thankfully I had ordered two and it was the same dye lot so it matched. All that's left is my least favorite part of tatting, sewing in the ends. I even know how to avoid doing so and still end up needing to. Oh well
