It is 100% this vibe. There is so much pain in the world but in this room there's love.

I feel very privileged that I get to work in the era where space isn't quite a frontier but a wilderness. Where it takes the entire industrial output of our planet to have a few people up there in a shack. Maybe someday we'll walk easily amongst the stars but for now we tread carefully.

Deep sea creatures like jellyfish, salps, etc fascinate me to no end. They’re like this raw expression of the kind of organized complexity that led to us, but they're also brutally logically simple. Fleshy robots that know only how to breed and consume.

One thing I will forever miss about South Florida is the ubiquitous Hispanic savory pastry shops. They were everywhere, open more or less 24/7, and fit this perfect niche between a meal and a snack.

Closest things here that scratch this itch for me are PCC breakfast burritos.

We're about astronauts to the Moon for the first time since 1972! Crew includes the first woman, first person of color, and first Canadian to go beyond low earth orbit!

Notes from the Library-Generation One Children of Mars by Steve R Stewart

Obscure 2010s kickstarter project. Wonderfully creative idea to write a story about kids on Mars dealing with Earth BS. Very much in the spirit of TLA/Korra. Definitely was a major inspiration for Feliks.

#1 Jamestown - FAMK

Similar in size to actual lunar infrastructure under development, this is what it's like to live in space full stop. Seasons 1 & 2 have a lot of interesting things to say about even the most casual activities in space have potentially deadly portent.

#2 Deepcore 1 - The Abyss

Another Cameron classic, probably the best vision of an
underwster habitat. It feels incredibly real and grounded, something that could be built-despite playing a bit fast and loose with the helium atmosphere. Also a great depiction of what happens when things go wrong.

#3 Snowpiercer

I love this franchise because it's such a visceral depiction of what it means to be a human in this absolutely hostile environment cocooned in technology. The production team has such fun packing an entire society into these modular form factors.

#4 Hell's Gate - Avatar

The RDA are unapologetic baddies but I must give James Cameron props for commitment to bit. Hell's Gate is more than just a habitat for humans on Pandora, it is an entire Earth independent industrial base. Best depiction of an off world colony IMO.

#5. Cooper Station - Interstellar

It's more of a mind blowing visual than a practical design. It showcases that O'Neillian future of human communities
in space.

Micro Film Review: Avatar Fire and Ash (2025)

I loved it. It's not super deep or anything. Builds on what happened previously. Loved the new characters and world-building.

Notes from the Library: Tech Noir by James Cameron

Cameron is many things but first and foremost he is an incredibly talented artist. It was really cool to get a peak into his creative process. He's really just a sci fi nerd at heart.

Micro Film Review: Nuremberg (2025)

It lulls you in with this idea of humanizing nazis and being cynical that there's real justice in a military tribunal until it really hits you with what it's really a warning about.

Actually the scariest film of the year.

Micro Film Review: A Wrinkle in Time (2018)

It definitely suffers from a low budget. Some of the more mind blowing images from the book are clearly absent. That said the core story and performances are powerful. Gave me a newfound appreciation for the source material.

Micro Film Review: The Illusionist (2006)

The plot is shlock but man does this movie have style. It is absolutely gorgeous to look at and takes you back to a whole era of film.

Notes from the Library: Becoming Yourself by Shunryu Suzuki

Suzuki is really good at communicating profound wisdom in a very accessible way. There's a reason his books are the Zen canon in English. Now I just gotta put it to practice.

Notes from the library Christmas
Special - The Killing Star by Charles Pellegrino and George Zebrowski

This book is very similar to the Dark Forrest but way edgier and more unhinged. The authors have some axes to grind, particularly with the scientists and researchers they felt wronged them.
