Apparently Wegman’s is now storing biometric data on shoppers, including eyes voices and faces 😬

Anyone entering the store could have data on their face, eyes and voices collected and stored by the Rochester-headquartered supermarket chain. The information is used to "protect the safety and security of our patrons and employees," according to the signage. The new scanning policy is an expansion of a 2024 pilot. The chain had initially said that the scanning system was only for a small group of employees and promised to delete any biometric data it collected from shoppers during the pilot rollout. The new notice makes no such assurances.”

🛡️We united major providers & privacy advocates and launched a coordinated campaign to defend VPNs. In a single day of action, we gathered over 15,000 signatures; by the end of the week, that number had reached 25,000!

🗣️ We hosted week of action against online ID checks, building on the work we’ve done to grow a coalition of nearly a hundred groups & released an open letter calling on lawmakers to reject age verification mandates. Our campaign has since become a central hub for a year of viral actions!

Even though we work on KOSA everyday, we didn’t know what bills would be in last weeks’ markup until 48 hours before the hearing.

This is the strategy- ram bills through before the public has had time to know what’s going on.

Data shows that when presented with ID checks, people are more likely to just give up instead of entering sensitive information, which they are rightfully mistrustful of, making it an enticing option for those wanting to censor certain content.
