Hell yeah.

All done! Took much quicker than expected. Note that this upgrade hasn't completely eliminated all problems. It will merely hold them off to some extent until the full rewrite is ready. And we may perform another upgrade in the future if this one doesn't help enough.

Our backend is being rewritten to heavily optimize this, but that will take some time, so for now we'll just have to upgrade the server. On our current infrastructure, this unfortunately may take an hour or so of downtime. Apologies for doing this on such short notice. (2/2)

Can you join our Discord server (filegarden.com/discord) and ask for help in our support channel there? I would be able to help you much quicker there.

If you aren't on Discord, you can also message me over Bluesky, but responses might be a bit slower!

That must be an unrelated issue. Can you join our Discord server (filegarden.com/discord) and ask for help in our support channel there, with a screenshot of the issue you're experiencing?

If you aren't on Discord, you can also message me over Bluesky, but responses might be a bit slower!

It is unlikely we will increase free storage limits due to file storage costs, but in the future we hope to offer increased limits for paid users!

It was just under high server load at the moment, sorry about that! Refresh now and it should be fine.

GoDaddy did not respond with any new information. Porkbun, on the other hand, offered to report to us whenever abusive content is found before taking action against our domain, which is very helpful. But unfortunately they have no way to ensure GoDaddy does the same.

:D

We can help you figure this out more easily if you shoot us a message in our Discord server's support channel: filegarden.com/discord

If you don't use Discord, you can also DM us over Bluesky, but we may be slower to respond.

They did not. I asked them how we can ensure this never happens again, and I'll post an update if they respond with anything noteworthy.

Glad you find it useful :)

🎉 The file.garden domain has finally been unblocked! Thank you everyone for your patience.

(We'll disable our temporary-file-garden.link domain and fixer script in about 7 days, so if you're still using those, please remove them before then to prevent links from breaking.)

Porkbun replied:

"We contacted the GoDaddy Registry on February 14, but we haven't received a reply yet.

We sent the GoDaddy Registry another email this morning. We will keep you informed of any reply and we will continue to contact them."

I called Porkbun, and they confirmed I should receive a response (but not necessarily a resolution, since they could ask me for more details) either today or tomorrow.

Many have reported difficulties with Tampermonkey. I recommend Violentmonkey instead, as it doesn't have any such issues (and it's open-source!): violentmonkey.github.io

Also, our script breaks some websites (YouTube, Google Accounts, etc.), so I suggest toggling it on only when it's needed.
February 17, 2025 at 3:07 PM
You should only enable it for sites that need it. The extension lets you configure a site whitelist. Or, if it's easier, just toggle it on only when it's needed.

It should!
February 17, 2025 at 12:23 AM
The script is meant to do this automatically, so if you're using the script, you shouldn't need to go out of your way to use the temporary domain yourself!
February 17, 2025 at 12:22 AM
It should work! If you join our Discord server and ask in the support channel, we can help you get it working: filegarden.com/discord

To answer a FAQ, the temporary domain and script will only work for 7 days after file.garden is unblocked.

Also, if you run a website with many file.garden links, add the above .js file as a script on your site to make your links work for everyone! Then your users don't need Tampermonkey. :)

Nope, hence this being only temporary! See the last sentence of our previous post: bsky.app/profile/file...
As a temporary workaround, you can now replace "file.garden" with "temporary-file-garden.link" in URLs!

This is temporary, so only some people will find it useful, but it's the most we can do for now. Porkbun's admin team is still looking into the case, and they won't be as active over the weekend.

I wrote a Tampermonkey script that lets file.garden keep working in just your own browser by requesting its files through the temporary domain! It's not perfect, but it usually works.

1. Install Tampermonkey: www.tampermonkey.net
2. Visit temporary-file-garden.link/fixer.user.js
3. Click "Install"
