imagine: you're an Alcatraz seabird, maybe some sort of gull, looking at the shore. you don't have much to worry about in terms of predation on your nearly-inhospitable island home. tourists visit frequently still, dropping food. it's great. hey what's that brown fuzzy thing emerging from the water
