I didn't get to watch those Minnesota teams closely enough to have a sense of who the #1 leader was. That is something that stands out to me about Bird - she often was the #1 leader imo.

Not a retort, but in response, I think the players (Stewie, LJ) who were the "best" players on the teams where Bird was "2nd best" got to look as good as they did because of Bird's presence on those teams. She is a player who makes even great players better. As a leader & competitor, she's tops.

I see the point @josephzucker.bsky.social is making, for sure - that as a face of the league / "GOAT" status player, Sue Bird receives more attention than other players who have more impressive singular accomplishments.
