I lived in Nottingham for a few years in the 1990s. Yesterday I went back for the first time in decades. Enjoyed calling in @fiveleavesbooks.bsky.social, Nottingham’s indie radical bookshop. Many moons ago it was Mushroom Bookshop. Here’s to @rossbradshaw.bsky.social for keeping such places going.

Thanks to those who came to Adeeb Shaneen's book launch last night. There was a collection for Medical Aid for Palestinians, which raised £170. We'll make it up to a round figure of course. Thanks to all those who donated.

Lozza, a white person with hair wearing a cheky shirt and smart casual grey jorts sat in a wheelchair. me, Rachel, a white woman with collar bone length ginger hair wearing a long green floral dress and big glasses with a pink crystal chain sat on a chair and maisie a white woman with long blonde hair kept off her face with a black hairband wearing a black dress and cardigan in a wheelchair

Over at Swindon Story Shed, a new member of staff discovers the real reason we booksellers buy these boxes, not to put behind face out books but something a lot more useful.

The value of proof reading several times. In our forthcoming book on Queer Nottingham, we've just caught describing the 1967 law change to allow gay men over 21 in England and Wales to have sex as long as it was in public. That would certainly have been an unusual law.

Our fiction group discussed Mouthing by Orla Mackey last month, and in July our Irish book group is discussing the same book. We should have had them on the same night...
But here we are: July 28 - fiveleavesbookshop.co.uk/events/five-leaves-irish-book-group-discusses-mouthing-by-orla-mackay/
