We hope the stop will only be without a shelter for a short time. But unfortunately the timeline is weather dependent and the development has a history of very long delays.

Also, as the plaza is reconstructed, the stop will need to be moved, likely across Stewart at the foot of the bridge over I-5.

But there’s a silver lining. It means construction should begin soon on a new plaza and what appears to be a pretty awesome shelter.

We haven’t tracked down any final design plans but this is what was presented in the development’s design review meeting.

Last month, instead of continuing the wait for the nearby development, Metro installed a temporary “counterweight shelter” that’s weighed down instead of physically bolted to the concrete.

Unfortunately, the development just requested the shelter’s removal, which is why it’s gone.
Almost TWO YEARS after a driver veered off the road and destroyed a bus shelter, fully grown tree, and concrete seating, the shelter has been replaced.

We’ve been begging for improvements here since the crash. Thank you @seattledot.bsky.social @kingcountymetro.bsky.social for coming through!

Unfortunately the concrete footing was ruined making a replacement more complex than just screwing it in.

Plus, a nearby development was to fund a better shelter anyways and the Denny paving project made coordinating complex.

Metro delayed a new shelter to avoid install/remove/reinstall situation

In December 2023, a driver destroyed this entire plaza including the bus shelter, palm tree, trash can, and seating leaving this stop pretty hostile for pedestrians and transit riders
