I’ll take a punt that the average resident of [insert suburban post-industrial midlands locale here] is better integrated into society than the average resident of, say, Knightsbridge. Or Chelsea. Regardless of ethnicity. I can’t stand the hypocrisy of it all.

Obviously. My comment was just irony: the US and UK have spent the last circa 20 years either denying climate change, or citing China’s emissions as reason that there is “no point in us trying to do anything about it”. Meanwhile, China has done the impossible. Awkward for the UK and US.
