When it comes to evaluating film speeds, we must consider the modern audience. I don’t believe silent films should be run fast simply because they were made during the silent era. you have to watch movement of lips, wind through trees, smoke from cigarettes. It all must look natural.

I am a craftsman projectionist at a classics movie Palace in Palo Alto and just a few of those early films were projected at 16 frames. Nosferatu absolutely had to be tamped down to 16 frames to make sense.
