Once tried to convince a young coworker he could get internet famous by taping his fingers to popsicle sticks for a month so he can’t bend them, and documenting how long he lasts on YouTube. I still think that’d do numbers tbh.

Easily blows the other two out of the water for me. Also I think it works better because Johnson tempers his inclination to play with structure, and rather than a whodunnit, he delivers a great thriller. And smartly downplaying the stunt casting.

1. Wake Up Dead Man - One of my favorite movies of the year. Josh O’Connor is tremendous, not just because he delivers a great performance but, whereas the other two movies give us worldviews to smugly deride and this does as well, he gets to embody a philosophy for us to believe in.

And while the politics in these things can be silly and unsubtle, I liked that the point that Miles Bron’s friends’ success all depended on his success and they compromised themselves in order to prop him up felt quietly made.

2. Glass Onion - I didn’t realize people didn’t like this one until recently. I think having Blanc remain front and center throughout makes for a much stronger narrative.

Make Chris Evans a real part of the supporting cast from the beginning and have the reveal that she didn’t actually kill Harlan come at the halfway point.

I gave up on it during the homeless addict/cop segment. It’s truly insane to me that it got near universal acclaim on release.
