Raised where the border is a bridge. I still believe in bridges, between nations, between people. I believe in the quiet power of intelligence, in science, equal rights, equity, and dignity even under fire. Ignorance burns hot, but intelligence burns long.
Thanks

Uh yeah, was was abbreviating.

And “gerrymandered” applies to voting districts, not clocks.
Nobody is stealing elections with a crooked UTC-5 boundary.
Time-zone lines zigzag because straight ones would slice cities, schools, and economies in half.

I don’t agree with your conclusions. But it’s fine. If it ever comes to a vote then vote for Standard. I’ll be voting for Saving or if given the option for a compromise, a 30-minute adjustment.

However, if the ballot says Standard is the only option, I’ll vote for that so we stop changing clocks.

Time zones aren’t “gerrymandered.” They’re messy on purpose.

Straight lines would split cities, counties, TV markets, and even school districts.

So we bend the lines around where people actually live.
Time zones boundaries follow communities, not longitude.

In my Maine example civil noon is 49 minutes early in standard.

Again, I’m not trying to debunk any of this. I’m pointing out it’s not universal.

And I’m also pointing out that people have different preferences.

You would vote for full time Standard. I would vote for full time Saving.

Since we have 24, rather than 360 time zones, the farther East in a time zone you get, the earlier solar noon is on the clock. In those places, observing Saving Time could move that offset closer to civil noon. Eastport Maine in October could get a 38 minute advantage.

He caused the rebellion, did nothing to stop it, then pardoned everyone convicted.

We must remove this dictator and prosecute his crimes and those of his cabinet.

You're communicating just fine. And I think we've all aligned that the twice a year change needs to stop. The debate on where to land is fun. Sadly, I don't see our legislators doing anything about it though.

Funny, but probably true observation. They tend to resist change in general.

Nothing I'm posting contradicts what you're saying and it may even be that, on average, standard time is better, but if it came down to a ballot issue, my vote would be for permanent Saving time. Or, if it were offered, a 30-minute shift. Permanent standard time is my least favorite option.

That is the goal. I hope to see it happen.

It's fun to read about how those boundaries were first determined. I'm not sure there really is a "correct" way to do it because we're working with 24 time zones necessitating finding some workable boundary every 15 degrees.

I think most of us though agree with your sentiment about just picking a time and sticking to it. To be clear, there are many of us who would prefer permanent Saving Time. I'm hoping there is both a compromise to be found somewhere and the willingness of our government to implement it.

There are parts of the U.S. where 12:00 PM during Saving Time actually matches the sun’s highest point.
Eastern Tennessee, eastern Kentucky, eastern Ohio, western PA, solar noon during DST hits about 12:00–12:05 PM.
In these places, DST is more aligned with nature than Standard Time.

It's 14:17 ET 11/30/25 and if it happened at 14:20 ET 11/30/25, it would not be soon enough.

It’s perfectly normal for the dictator he is. The 14th amendment made it perfectly clear he’s ineligible for office. He and his enablers completed a bloodless coup and here we are.

I’m simply annoyed with the biannual time changes. And for me, all of that hour of daylight in standard time in the morning is worthless. I use it in the evening. So if it ever came to a ballot item I’d choose… 30 minute adjustment, permanent saving time, permanent standard time in that order.
November 30, 2025 at 5:56 PM
Ultimately, I would like to see the practice of changing the clocks twice a year end once and for all. I would not be a proponent of ending up on standard time, but if that were to be the case, I can't see myself complaining about it as it's far more important to me to stop the time changes.
