uh obviously not the important thing here but did the author try to anonymize the Mass. agent by saying "they" and then forget and start using "he" ?
From the article: "The attorney in the Massachusetts office said that they attend a Baptist church in Massachusetts and is a registered Republican. He said that he does not see how this plan is in line with either American values or Biblical doctrine." maybe they got so thrown by the they...is construction that they just gave up?

Denise Saddler was president of the Oakland teachers union from 1986 to 1992 and worked as a teacher in the district for years before that. “Prior to Proposition 13 we had a robust music program, we had funded libraries — there was also a city library in every neighborhood that was open all the time and had summer programs,” she says. “There were a lot of after-school programs for kids. There were many more opportunities.” After the proposition passed, school dance and art programs were axed, she says, and so were school-funded field trips. There were at least two teachers’ strikes in Oakland in the ‘80s. Many had imagined the court’s mandate to reduce disparities would raise poor districts up, but Proposition 13 changed the calculation. Spending did begin to level, but it leveled down.

I am a freelancer and I have never felt so seen in my life. It is 100000% exactly like this
An editor replies. They love a pitch! A bread and butter client pings you, they need something soon! It’s big! Another yes comes in, and another. And somehow it happens that all of these yesses are due within the same three week period. They all happen to turn edits around in the same 48 hours, and require your response 48 hours after that. For some reason two of your deadlines are set for a Federal holiday.

normally I only visit my county buildings during the day and the flags aren't very noticeable. So tonight, I discovered to my delight that our county is flying three flags:

USA
California
Trans pride

We're a long way from perfect but this made me very proud of my county

I'm sorry, I know this is not your problem, but I just felt like screaming into a void seeing that now Dems may cave and end the shutdown without getting anything they were supposedly fighting for. We've been put through hell for weeks, constantly having our ability to simply feed ourselves dangled in front of our faces, our survival used as a bargaining chip, told it was for a reason. Our suffering would prevent even more suffering and that it would be temporary and worth it to save healthcare for millions. And now it's all for nothing. They stood for nothing. They caused suffering for no reason. They'll cause even more suffering for no reason. It wasn't 40 million people starving that made them cave. They were willing to put up with that. But the threat of holiday traveling being disrupted seems to be the thing to push them to give in. They have failed everyone. I'm so angry.
