I appear to have gained a few hundred followers as a result of being part of an autism starter pack, so maybe now is a good time to do some kind of introduction to my life and work in that realm.

Hi! I'm an autistic writer who covers autism, pop culture and the middle of that Venn diagram.

I grew up near the border. I’ve spent 43 years listening to blowhard right wing Americans go on and on and on about their freedom. Logically I know why none of them seem to care it’s under such threats right now. But man, it’s still a mindfuck to watch their hypocrisy exposed like this.

I’ve been getting a lot of IKEA hacks in my feeds on other platforms lately and some of them are intriguing, but some of them make me wonder why they didn’t just start from scratch.

I'm thinking "Gerry Anderson never fully considered the body horror implications of his own creation" could be applied to Joe90, too.

Very important thread.

This is a PSA for Blueskiers rediscovering Captain Scarlet:

1. Electricity is the one thing that can kill both Mysterons and Captain Scarlet himself.

2. We can't be certain how unkillable Scarlet is, because Gerry Anderson never fully considered the body horror implications of his own creation.

Jarvis Cocker has got to be in the running, right?

I also need to know: I am fairly middle-of-the-road on Taylor Swift but someone I know called her the Greatest Living Lyricist. She is not.

Who is yours? Either the greatest or your favorite?

Tetsuya Endo dabbled in architectural drafting before going all in on wrestling. Daisuke Sasaki spent a year in construction before he decided that was not the life he wanted and trying wrestling. Somehow that seems perfect for those two.

I’m so glad my brother in law pushed for it, because Aaron and I were both sleeping on it. And I had no idea how much I still loved them until they were playing.

Like what do you mean Black Rebel Motorcycle Club's Howl is old enough to drink here? When did that happen? How?

The anniversary show was bloody great, though.

I've made peace with the fact that the beloved albums from my youth are turning 30 now.

But it turns out I'm struggling with the fact that albums from my early years as a music writer are turning 20.

I googled my name and hers to see if I could find any more info for this weirdness. I usually don’t click or even look at the AI summary but what the hell? The only part of this that’s true is that I did once write an article of celebrity stalkers for HuffPo Music Canada.

There is no avoiding it, apparently! Even if you don’t pay attention at all, some random AI slop will assign you an opinion.
Screenshot of a headline that says 8”I thought Taylor swift’s Eldest Daughter trac would wreck me. It healed me instead. Accompanied by a Breaking News graphic for Berawang News Emotional Resonance and Healing

Many listeners initially approached “Eldest Daughter” with trepidation, expecting a deep dive into sorrow. However, as the song unfolds, it reveals themes of resilience and healing. The emotional crescendo invites listeners to embrace their vulnerabilities rather than succumb to them. In a review for *Billboard*, music critic Sarah Kurchak noted, “The juxtaposition of pain and empowerment in ‘Eldest Daughter’ is what makes it a transformative experience.”

It'll never be lost on me that a particular subset of the liberal commentariat in both North America and Western Europe were deeply infatuated with this woman up until the very moment she decided to talk about that one issue you're still basically not allowed to talk about lol.

People are allowed to wear shirts for fashion alone. I don’t get it, but I’m not the boss of them. It bums me out, though, because “hey, nice shirt. I love them!” was my one good talking to strangers line as an awkward autistic person and now it’s ruined.

I saw a woman in a Zombies shirt while I was running errands and listening to the Zonbies today. I almost said something, then chickened out because I didn’t want to be accused of being the rock t-shirt police if it was just a fashion choice on her part. (I wasn’t going to ask her to name 3 songs.)

Red Carpet Massacre isn’t a *great* album, but it’s got some good tracks and at least Duran Duran were taking risks and trying new things.
