Beyond that, coding assistants do need to hit huge LLMs on a server with 100B+ params to come up with usable code. The bigger the better. There's a dream of local and privately-tuned models being useful for coding, but it's very far away.

Talking to non-industry gamers who have a zero tolerance anti-AI stance, coding is definitely included. Not sure if that would change if they knew it was so ubiquitous.

"9/11" was (and still is) used similarly. For example we barely refer to the new millennium or century, it's mostly "after 9/11". Our economy and politics are just so directly transformed by these events, and we can't avoid seeing the contrasts in our lives, neighbors, and country.
