Hopefully we’ll be able to announce our venue for #Footycon26 soon. We’ve worked hard to find a venue worthy of the conference and believe we’ve found the right place. Details as soon as we can release them. A historic venue with modern facilities!

A week ago we had a special night launching our book Histories of Women's Football in Britain and Ireland at the Embassy of Ireland in London. Thanks to Orla McBreen and all the Embassy for making it a special night. Images and a few words on it here: gjfootballarchive.com/2025/09/22/b...

Congrats to our lead organiser @garyjames.bsky.social on the publication of his two upcoming books!
Hopefully you’ll be able to share all your research on them at #footycon26

Delighted to say that 2 books I’ve worked on are to be launched this month. Unusual to get 2 launches in the same month. One I’ve co-authored; the other I’ve co-edited. 1 will be launched at the National Football Museum; the other at the Irish Embassy in London. Watch this space.

Finally, to end where we started, a huge thank you to all of you for supporting our conference for another year!
This year was just another step in our growth and we look forward to bringing anyone who loves the history of football of all codes together to celebrate this ☺️🩵
footycon.bsky.social
Also, a huge thanks the authors of ‘A most unsuitable game’ for their panel, which was the well deserved winner of our inclusivity prize, which celebrates inclusive & diverse histories of football. A huge thanks & congrats to @fionaskillen.bsky.social, Karen Fraser & @juliemcneillwrites.bsky.social
footycon.bsky.social
Additionally, we want to shout out Tim Mills, for his community-led programming presentation, which co-won our day 1 best paper prize (sponsored by Routledge) for his work with @officialcufc.bsky.social.
footycon.bsky.social
A huge shoutout to Karen & Lauren from the Maroon Mile Project for getting involved with our conference this year! Whilst the presentation so very closely missed out on our inclusivity prize, Karen & Lauren were great representatives for @Hearts& highlighting such a wonderful project
footycon.bsky.social
Additionally, a huge thank you to Routledge for their continued support of the conference and their contribution of £200 worth of book vouchers to gift to the winners of our best paper prizes and our inclusivity prize.

But let us now give a few shout outs to some people….
footycon.bsky.social
Secondly, a huge thanks to the Irish FA for their support and allowing us to hold the conference at the Clearer Twist National Football Stadium at Windsor Park. It was a great venue and we can’t thank you enough for your support of our event
footycon.bsky.social
Firstly, a huge thanks to our organisers @garyjames.bsky.social, Heidi James, @whuhistorian.bsky.social & Conor Murray for their hard work on putting the conference together!
footycon.bsky.social
Thank you to everyone who came along, engaged with online and/or promoted #footycon25, you made this a wonderful conference & we look forward to #footycon26 already.

Our final paper of this penultimate session of #footycon25 sees Mark Orton
once again regaling us with his research on Argentinian football as he tells us about the lesser known son of Alexander Watson Hutton, Arnold, and his role in the history of Argentine football & rugby
footycon.bsky.social
Our last post for today sees the end of #footycon25 with 2 winners being announced, with Gabrielas Rios-Infante winning our day 2 best paper prize & @fionaskillen.bsky.social, Karen Fraser and @juliemcneillwrites.bsky.social

Sadly, We’re into our final session of #footycon25 😭 but our penultimate paper of the conference sees Wesley Kirkpatrick talking about @arsenalfc.bsky.social manager George Allison & how the club became well versed in their advertisement of the club thanks to Allison’s career in journalism
