Looks like the offspring of B-17 with a B-24.
The Consolidated B-24 Liberator (1939) featured a larger bombload, longer range and higher speed than Boeing’s B-17. However, it also had a lower service ceiling and could prove a handful to fly. With almost 18,500 built, it was the most-produced heavy bomber in history.

#histbookchat #booksky In my research for my Battle for Hong Kong presentation, I came across "Escape from Hong Kong" by Tim Luard: hkupress.hku.hk/index.php?ro.... It's a well-written, captivating story about an escape to Free China by MTBs that has the makings of a dramatic movie.

#histbookchat #booksky In my research for my Battle for Hong Kong presentation, I came across "Escape from Hong Kong" by Tim Luard: hkupress.hku.hk/index.php?ro.... It's a well-written, captivating story about an escape to Free China by MTBs that has the makings of a dramatic movie.
I think it would make for a good action movie. I heard the son of Ted Ross, who was part of the escape party, was trying to get one made, but didn't find any takers.

The best account of this escape is Tim Luard's well-researched book, "Escape from Hong Kong". Tim has a blog at timalisonontour.blogspot.com where he retraced the journey in 2010. For a personal account of the December 25 departure, see Colin McEwan's diary entry at gwulo.com/node/56910.

Concerning the #Force136 story, the day's key event was Mike Kendall's escape from #Hongkong with top military & civilian personnel, including Chiang Kai-shek’s political & military representative, Admiral Chan Chak. With assistance from local guerillas, they were to reach Huizhou in Free China...
