correction, i have two still that work. one is on my bed and the other is a shrug that uses a battery instead of a power cord. any blankets with a power cord that i wear at my desk get ruined within a few months. that's the main place i wreck them.

after unplugging everything and plugging it all back in, it seems to have fixed itself, but again.... why are electric blankets literally a consumable that breaks after X amount of time? i have *ONE* that still works after several years and at least 5 that i've had to trash.

none of these tragedies *excuse* their actions, many have similar/worse upbringings and don't go on to murder people, but it does help explain where it went wrong and put them on this path, and we can use that to watch for warning signs among those around us and hopefully help before it gets bad.

gein was brutally abused by an overly religious mother who he idolized and learned extremely misogynistic views from her, yet her death shattered him. he too couldn't cope with losing his loved ones. it's no surprise the direction he turned.

i do think it's important that we see the human side of these "monsters" so we can understand what failed and contributed to them turning out like this... dahmer repressed his homosexuality and with absent/distance parents, he flailed around with no one to help/guide him and he feared losing people.

like the dahmer series, monster does successfully put a real human face on the person, one which we do miss because it gets overshadowed by the crimes, but given how much of it is made up, i'm not sure the humanity and tragedy of his life is real and what's invented for tv.

the worst? recreated scenes from movies (psycho, texas chainsaw massacre, silence of the lambs) that are done by ed. THIS DID NOT HAPPEN EVER. sure, it's interesting how they translate it between ed and a recreation of the actual movie scene, but you cannot apply "true story" to this.

the only thing "true" in it are most of the character's names, the location, some of the murders and the graverobbing. between a love interest, a sexual encounter *with one of the victims*, and his eventual treatment, it's 90% fictional fluff.
