If the villain was approved would you not be allowed to pitch a different story with them? It was my understanding that sega has a pretty specific approval process that also adds any character they approve into the pool of characters they can use for marketing, so you’d have a foot in the door still

When mainline sticks is mentioned in a videogame 10 years after appearing in a 4 panel manga barely anyone saw and still hasn't been properly introduced in any game or comic, there's something wrong with SEGAS priorities for these characters.

But now? Now even including characters that are supposed to EXIST in this world from the start is like pulling teeth for them.

It's just a little frustrating when before, Sega wasn't this shy about reminding people that Sonic isn't a game franchise, its a multimedia franchise. Since 1992 they've grabbed characters like charmy and amy from the mangas, marketed sally at sega parks, & included archie comics in gems collection.

For me, atleast, its not frustrating that they call this canon or that non-canon, its frustrating to me that they will reference different canon characters and moments, but DO anything with those canon things. They've been tiptoeing around IDW comics for 3 years since hard confirming the canon.

That's the pre-occupation with canon I was explaining.
SEGA themselves have leaned on this "everything is canon" phrase for a fair bit, even having tailstube confirm that in-universe the multiverse is a thing & boom and fan works are likely part of it. But it's the dripfeed that's frustrating.

Imagine growing up with a franchise and then that franchise comes in and tells you all the characters you love not only don’t exist in that franchise, but they’re introducing more characters that may or may not be treated the same later.

Like, yeah the overall quality of archie was incosistant, but it’s still the longest running game based comic series. It didn’t get that way without SOME phenomenal stories along the way. IDW is very good, but desperately needs a new status quo.

I mean the reason is segas taken direct control of the character design process like they originally intended to do for archie, so they can make the merch without asking their own comic for permission. Sega didn’t know archie was making new characters until there were too many.

if it’s the same manga as before, you can read it already, there’s no dialogue. also there are multiple sonic manga with both offical and uno translations. Five in the past two years.

Look at it this way, you’ll have a hard time running out of stuff to watch, now. Since if you’re bored you can watch the movies, the live action, any filler you skipped the first time around, any arc you tuned out of or forgot, and any reactors who actually know how to avoid spoilers.

personally I would have tied trip to that one dragon teenager from way back instead of pretending that superstars could fit into the timeline 1 to 1. But I do appreciate the more blatent flirting between amy and tekno after most of the continuations sidelined it.

You have to remember Archie Comics were known for their romance drama, and Sonic hadn’t gotten a second love interest for over 120 issues, this was done to open the door for Mina, Amy and Fiona, not out of any hate for sally.
