The hamlet of Oldroyd on the opposite side of the valley from my house always looks super pretty at this time of year as all the Hawthorn trees flower 😍

A few photos I took from a day out at @yspsculpture.bsky.social yesterday (it's a world class art gallery set within a country park in Yorkshire, UK).

I'm still thinking about the tasty chocolate and banana tray-bake from the cafe there - so good 🤤

The sculpture 'Into Being' by the sculptor Laura Ellen Bacon - a very large 'flowing' sculpture (like draped fabric with ripples in it) by weaving and bending wicker tree twigs (like a wicker basket, but a more free-form shape and a lot bigger with 'waves' of texture to it). There's a person stood next to it for scale (it's taller than her, a bit over 2 metres tall, about 8-10 meters wide, about 6 meters deep (it mostly fills the room) and there's a path through the middle of it to allow you to be within the sculpture The sculpture 'six women' by Bharti Kher, there are casts of 6 seated and naked women made out of plaster of Paris, each sat on wooden stools, set in a white cavernous gallery space. On the far wall stands a man looking at a very large circular artwork on the wall made out of thousands of small golden discs in a tightly packed spiral. The sculpture 'Djinn' by artist Bharti Kher, a 5 meter tall metal sculpture, reminiscent of a (stylised) figure sat holding a giant bunch of bananas covering their face and fanning out over their head). The statue is situated outside, with an old building behind it, sat on grass, and a blue sky overhead. 'Love' sculpture by artist Robert Indiana, sat on a grassy bank with a countryside view rolling away behind it. The sculpture is typography of the word 'love' in red and extruded as 3d. It's split into 2 rows - 'LO' on top of 'VE'., and the 'O' is at a 45 degree angle.

A canal leads off into the distance with the strep sides of the valley to both sides. There's a collection of canal boats on the water, and in the middle distance a tall old stone brick mill chimney hinting back to the days of the industrial revolution.

Reminds me years ago chatting to the Queens Raven Keeper at Knaresborough castle and she said they were super intelligent but a bit of a nightmare - trying to land on peoples heads for fun, one liked to lie on it's back and play dead before jumping up to scare visitors 😅

Randomly just looking through some old photos I took (I used to do a lot of photography), so here's some photos I took at The Yorkshire Sculpture Park over the years of some of my fave artworks (I used to live just down the road from it so was a regular visitor).

The sculpture "Small Lie" by KAWS - 10m tall disney-inspired sculpture made out of wood, towering over my partner and dog - shot this just before closing time on the last day it was exhibited at dusk using 2 flash guns to light it up (it's now on display at Hamad International Airport). The sculpture "Pelvis" by Not Vital - a giant shiny metal reproduction of a pelvis bone twice the height of a human - taken at sunset with mist in the valley in the background, and a couple hugging in silhouette stood next to the sculpture The sculpture "Along the Way" by KAWS - 2 giant wooden disney-esque characters consoling each other - about 5m tall and made out of black painted wood. Taken in the snow in the lead up to the official opening, a small child is stood at the foot of them to show the huge scale. The statues "Spiegel I&II" (2010?) by Jaume Plensa early one frosty morning - metal human-figure sculptures made out of various international letter shapes - bit enough that you can walk inside them (had to get there early enough for it to be a photo without visitors in it!)

Can confirm there are indeed cows with calves in the field, for if you need a (little bit) of added danger on your walk 🐮

Went for a walk around Lumbutts on the opposite side of the valley from our house this evening; It rained a little, but when the sun broke through a gap in the clouds at sunset there was a beautiful golden light for a few minutes...
