Local cops are not on the side of Democratic politicians or under their actual control. People refuse to understand this too even though we've been making this point for decades.

Finally here’s some fotos of CONSUELO JIMÉNEZ UNDERWOOD the artist behind the art! #AbstrsctArtist #Chicana
The artist gazes out at the viewe, her dark hair parted in the middle and falling to bear her shoulders. She wears large glasses and a huipil in golden yellow & dark & light purple, that looks like it might be Amuzgo, woven in a backstrap loom. The artist at a bit of an angle, seated, looks at the viewer. In front of of her is a piece of art and behind her hangs another.

Food - as ever - is as central to Mexican/Mexican-American culture one one side of the border as the other. And there are certain foods - like nopal & tortillas that are even more powerful touchstones & symbols, as in these works by CONSUELO JIMENEZ UNDERWOOD. #AbstractArtist
Undocumented Nopal. 2525 AD (2019) Consuelo Jiménez Underwood. Tortillas de Norte (2005) Consuelo Jiménez Underwood.

MIGUEL HERNÁNDEZ URBÁN started doing monumental sculpture in the 1990s but it’s hard to find fotos of them on the interwebs. One amazing one is La Tehuana, which is glorious but not at all abstract lol - look it up tho!

Finally some portraits of GABRIEL OROZCO himself
The artist seems mid-sentence, lips parted and seeing to make eye contact with someone off the the left. Gabriel Orozco stands in a gallery, wearing all black save some snake/skin looking light colored shoes. Gazes at the viewe with eyes and face creased in a smile.
fotoslasirena.bsky.social
In this painting GABRIEL OROZCO, left nothing to chance. oh no, wait, in fact almost *everything* WAS left to chance. Painting was a significant departure for Orozco as it is art that is about itself & not in relationship to daily life. A game of chance determined color, placement, aspect of circle.
Kytes Tree (2005) GABRIEL OROZCO.
fotoslasirena.bsky.social
Ephemerality, chance, nature, construction, found, self, objects and human relationships… like a lot of abstract & conceptual art, GABRIEL OROZCO asks us to think and feel and challenge the ideas of limits between art and everyday objects #AbstractArtist
Two couples (1990-91) Gabriel Orozco. Installation view of ‘Sandstars’ (2012) Gabriel Orozco.
fotoslasirena.bsky.social
One of the things GABRIEL OROZCO has said about his work/art in general is how art changes how you feel / view the world *after* you experience it. 🧵 Natl Hispanic Heritage Month #Mexico #AbstractArtist #ConceptualArt

Finally photos of ANDREA ALONSO herself, the #AbstractArtist behind the #AbstractArt
The artist sits with her arms crossed, one hand holding paint brushes. She wears glasses and a paint stained shirt, her hair long. Behind her a variety of easels hold paintings. The artist stands next to and partially obscured by a large painting.

Even art with the title & emotion of Soledad is surrounded by a jumble of buildings loneliness in a crowd, just as there is a heart of deep dark quiet in the midst of Cacofonía… remarkable feats by ANDREA ALONSO #AbstractArtist

Finally, fotos of ELENA ESCOBEDO herself, the artist behind the art #AbstractArtist
Black & white photo of the artist perhaps mid-sculpture of a human figure, she looks down at her hands. Helena Escobedo Hugs a piece of her art, as she gazes out at the viewer. They are in a garden with shrubs and trees beyond. The artist mid speech, which hand near chin she wears glasses and is looking up and away from viewer.
fotoslasirena.bsky.social
This installation has actually moved around, beyond the end of ELENA ESCOBEDO’s life, perhaps as is appropriate for the abstracted representation of our hermanas migrantes. It was her final artwork, as relevant then as now in 2025. #AbstractArtist #AbstractArt

#AbstractPhotography #AbstractArt
A muted color image in purple and greys, what seems like perhaps a figure in profile.
fotoslasirena.bsky.social
Perhaps one of her more iconic works, with Coatl ELENA ESCOBEDO blurs the division between sculpture to be viewed and space to be experienced, not unlike the work of her mentor & colleague (& yesterdays featured artist) Matias Goeritz #AbstractArtist #AbstractArt

ELENA ESCOBEDO was also a talented abstract printmaker as this piece eloquently shows.
