Spooky books must be shared, and that is a hilarious name for a horror book!

Mia Garay very succinctly explains the differences between editors and beta readers. As someone who edits professionally, both are very useful!
miagaray.bsky.social
Why pay an editor when a beta reader could have caught that first?

Heck yeah! I really appreciate this as a writer and a womb to tomb editor. It is spot on and definitely worth a reshare!

Finally, if you are in the Atlanta area next week, come see me at the Goth Market. I will be selling books, handmade jewelry, home decor, and lots of curated plus sized clothing!

A few days ago, a ghost story anthology I wrote a story for released. This is the first time any of my fiction has been published, ever. I am very proud of my story, "Hunger," which features Macon, GA, and a horror that is not what it seems. You can purchase here. #booksky books2read.com/u/3yR7NJ
An image that features a large quill hovering above an inkpot, with wisps of smoke coming from it in the foreground. The background consists of a dark library with two shelves and a brazier on a table, with the title: The Haunted Quill.

In celebrating philosophy, The Philosopher's Shirt is doing a contest where everyone wins. Share a philosophy shelfie, and I will give you a discount code to use on whatever you like on the site! Here is mine.
A depiction of a colorful bookshelf decorated with ghost figurines and Pop Funkos. The bookcase is strung with colorful lights in the shapes of mummies, as for Halloween.

Looks great! And annotations FTW!

This is one of my favorites. It's an odd but essential read. I wrote a paper for a conference on it last year.

Just finished up a piece about Foucault's Madness and Civilization. Having been hospitalized several times, it was a tough thing to write. I am more than ready for a break.

Mexican Gothic is still on my shelf and TBR! I really need to read it for this Halloween! Thank you for sharing!

My posting here has been limited due to illness, so I missed the opportunity to share my article on Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz, a 17th century Mexican nun who defied the patriarchy and landed a legacy. It's up on The Philosopher's Shirt! #philsky

I will be interested to read this one. Everyone should read Toni Morrison at least once. IMO, one of the most powerful writers of the 20th-21st century.

During my time in Macon, I often found out that the truth of American slavery was, in a lot of respects, worse than what was depicted in Beloved. Morrisson had just given us a peek into what the US hid under the guise of Thomas Jefferson, Scarlett O'Hara, and "they were like family."
foucaultu.bsky.social
Toni Morrison was the first author to ever truly traumatize me with a book. Beloved was required reading in high school, and it was horrific. But necessary. I was horrified at the dehumanized enslaved people. But it was just a reflection the daily dehumanization they would have faced in reality.

Want to read ethically by ditching Audible/Amazon, Spotify, &c? 💙📚

1. Your local library needs support & has free physical & audiobooks

2. Queer Liberation Library: free digital library for US LBGTQ folks

3. Libro.fm: Audible but pays indie bookshops

4. Bookshop.org: physical books from indies

Wow, that is the most satisfying story ever! How cool! I love that we now do designs on library cards. I still have the old design of my childhood library card. I honestly believe we are in a golden age for kid's literature, as we are lucky to have artists and writers like you! Thank you!

Representation means everything. Awesome! :)

Do you remember when you got your first library card? I remember proudly signing my name on my library card at Gwinnett Public Libraries. When I worked at the public library in Macon, signing up kids for their first cards was one of my favorite things. <3

In honor of Library Card Sign-Up Month, here's the card I designed for my local library! 🥰
