While the division had been carved up, with 5 NZ bde overrun at Sidi Azeiz on 27 Nov, and 6 NZ Bde smashed outside Tobruk, it had nevertheless been the spearhead of the destruction of the Axis forces. Between its sacrifice and that of 5 S.A. Bde and 7 Spt Grp a week before, Axis forces were spent.
