My favourite drive home from work a few years ago. This road over the Kirkstone Pass towards Ambleside in the Lake District is called ‘The Struggle’. Aptly named. That’s Windermere in the distance

A snow scene high up in the English Lake District national park. There is a single road leading through the Kirkstone Pass, down to Ambleside. There’s not much snow in the foreground, the moorland grass is visible, but higher up on the mountainside there’s enough snow to make driving tricky. In the distance the sun is peeking through the clouds and shining on Windermere.

A room full of Buddhas at Wat Samret temple in Koh Samui, Thailand. Left to wander whilst our taxi driver nipped to pay his respects at a funeral, I found this old rooms crammed full of Buddha figures, carved from stone, no spaces between about 50 of them, and all covered in bright orange fabric. These were draped across their bodies, some with gold sequins, some with garlands of matching orange marigolds.

This is a picture of three domes topping whitewashed buildings in Oia, Santorini. The buildings are on a steep cliff, dropping off into a sea that looks navy blue. The domes are a very deep matte turquoise paint, making a great contrast with the white structures. The largest domed roof has a white crucifix on top.

The sun is on the horizon and the rays are radiating outwards. This picture was taken in Oia, Santorini. It is mid- morning so the sun is strong and bouncing off the white buildings with deep blue roofs. These roofs are domes and are world famous. Oia attracts many millions of tourists. The buildings tumble down the hill and are only reachable by winding paths and stairs. The many cave like houses have been turned into expensive hotels. In amongst the steep white cube-like houses is the occasional pale peach house to provide some contrast to the picture.

This is a picture of the very ornate ceiling of the Leadenhall market in London. It is taken very close to the Lamb Tavern which is often full of drinkers on the way home from work in the City. The ceiling is domed, with glass letting in light around the sides, there are chandeliers also. The colours of the painted details are rich; burgundy, red, green. The ceiling itself is dark blue with painted stars.
