My first computer was an Atari 400, in the summer of 1982. Membrane keyboard was probably a lot cheaper but it was tough to use for anything that required typing. The only other differences from the 800 was no Right Cartridge Slot and no ability to expand the memory. It WAS half the cost of the 800.
