Our paper offers evidence-informed insights into how regulators, platforms, and researchers can collaborate more effectively to realise the DSA’s potential — from streamlined and efficient data-sharing mechanisms to clearer operational standards simplifying compliance.

- TikTok and Meta have been preliminarily found to violate transparency and data access obligations and face potential sanctions under the same rules.
These developments show that the DSA is no longer just a framework on paper, it’s actively shaping platform behaviour and regulatory practice in EU.

- It issued the first major fine under the DSA — €120 million against X for breaches of transparency, deceptive design, and barriers to research access.

In this article, we outline practical recommendations for DSA implementation — especially around conflicts of interest, power and resource asymmetries, and implementation bottlenecks — drawing on our collective experiences and reflection on ongoing policy debates.

Our piece discusses opportunities and challenges for the online platform transparency and accountability regulation introduced recently in the European Union.
