In all fairness, we also had some identical readings during our pilot testing of blood lactate analyzers today.

More to come in 2025!

Want to increase your V̇O₂max?

Switching testing equipment might be the easiest way...

With regards to some.. optimistic VO2max numbers going around 😅 this might be a good time to remind us about measurement variability with V̇O₂max and the importance of standardisation with metabolic equipment 🧵👇

How accurate and precise are handheld blood lactate analyzers?

Raincloud plots illustrating the relative difference between four commonly used handheld analyzers and the Biosen C-line stationary analyzer.

Pretty (and) informative?

Agreed! And the integration with ResearchRabbit is awesome.

Which is likely due to the watch not being able to measure my HRV (and HR) correctly.

In fact, it thinks my HR is 75 bpm, not 136 bpm as my ECG chest strap is suggesting.

Note that measuring HRV correctly is even more difficult than measuring HR.

However, the sensor on the watch can only measure HRV with sufficient accuracy when you're at complete rest.

Example: This is me cycling indoors at 190 W and 135 bpm. My watch thinks I'm at a stress level of 28/100. While I'm exercising!

Among the topics we discussed is the continous measurement of your stress level during the day. According to Garmin, this "measure" is based on your HRV.
