Dick Tracy by Chester Gould from January 28, 1951.
In this 12-panel strip, Tracy goes to arrest the evil Dr Plain at his home but Plain’s prosthetic forearm is actually a flamethrower that he fires on Tracy. Plain escapes to the street, still firing the flamethrower, which burns a bystander. He isn’t paying attention to where he is going and runs in front of a gasoline truck. He is struck by the truck, which tips over. In the last panel, gas can be seen leaking towards the unconscious Plain, who still has flames coming out of his arm.
