Just sent out this free piece. The response to the execution of Alex Pretti reveals how we have gotten into this mess. The anger is not directed at Trump, who caused this whole situation. open.substack.com/pub/phillips...

Welsh Labour and its candidates must be raging at the fact and manner of Starmer’s rejection of Burnham. For it’s confirmed for many undecided voters on the Welsh left that the LP is a lost cause and they should throw their lot in with Plaid or the Greens. Burnham offered some hope of change.

Watch how the lads talk about Sir Keir: note that criticisms are not about matters of substance, they are about his poor sales technique. They want a better ad campaign, a snappier slogan, a catchier jingle, because it is *absolutely unthinkable* that there might be something wrong with the product.

An aspect of this is believing that once Trump is gone the balance will be restored. From the UK it seems the wider GOP’s role in the chaos is barely acknowledged. With the midterms coming shouldn’t the Democrats be firmly linking the Republicans to Trump and emphasising its candidate’s culpability?

Reminiscent of how the Democrats chose Biden for a second run - faction first.

The current Labour Party has been shaped into a machine for getting the party’s ruling clique elected at local and national level. It’s not a vehicle for change or activism or even much discussion. That’s OK with the party membership and the electorate if you deliver something. But….

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu will skip the signing of US President Donald Trump’s “Board of Peace” in Davos after Switzerland confirmed it would enforce the ICC arrest warrant over war crimes in Gaza.

This mirrors the Tory party in the UK and its disastrous Brexit policy. In both cases Putin is the winner.

I think, as the UK is also finding out, if you make a country so unattractive to immigrants it soon becomes unattractive to anyone including any immigrants you want to encourage and your own residents.

Distortion - but so subtly done it’s hard to believe it wasn’t deliberate.

The truth, that has been stated clearly, was that the Maccabi fans were banned because they constituted a serious threat OF THEMSELVES. Blatant distortion.

BBC 10pm news Weds. stated that the police banned the Maccabi fans because their presence would have encouraged more protestors and police lacked the resources to handle the additional protestors.

Also it looks to me that the windscreen shot could easily have hit his own colleague and the side window shots hit the person in the passenger seat. Reckless and unprofessional at the very least.

Morality to one side - by the time Trump decides to invade Canada it will be too late to oppose it. If we didn’t want him invading Venezuela the time to object was when he was murdering Venezuelan fishermen clinging to wreckage. We are appeasing an autocrat instead of inspiring his opposition.

Says a lot that we don’t know if a British Prime Minister will oppose the invasion of the Kingdom of Denmark.
