Thankfully, both the crows and the magpies seem wholly unbothered by the tree’s sudden absence. The amount of magpies even seems to have doubled.
The jackdaws have disappeared entirely, however

The young magpies of this summer spent a lot of time caching seemingly random things like flower petals and presumably snacks in and under pots and lawn chairs

young g.s. woodpeckers are recognised by the red cap, whereas adult males only have a small red patch on the back on the head, and adult females lacking the patch entirely

but we had a special visitor today: not only was this the first jacksdaw on the pole, it’s a ‘piebald’ jackdaw
that means it has those spots that lack pigment entirely, though otherwise its a perfectly healthy bird
