This morning, my wife spotted this juvenile Timber Rattlesnake beneath one of our backyard bird feeders. Fortunately, I was able to safely relocate it before our dogs discovered it. The second photo shows just how well the snake was camouflaged. 🌿

Denticeps clupeoides is truly a unique fish and the last surviving member of a very ancient lineage of clupeiforms that diverged from the clupeoids during the Mesozoic era. Below is an example of one with life colors that I and others collected in Benin years ago.
