The attitude of "let's see the people feeling disenfranchised trying to enfranchise themselves and tell them they are to be hated for doing so" is sadly very strong. I personally think Reform and the like offer the wrong diagnosis, but isn't it obvious that there are problems people want addressed?

It would be better to master these ideas first in the air, and then on rail, before trying for cars. If you read about the troubles involved with driverless trains on standard rail,it's obvious cars are their own category of problem

...situations, but I would be wary of them in low frequency, high consequence scenarios. And that's before pedestrians get used to the idea of being able to just safely step in front of a vehicle. Good for driver aids to support a human, but I think we are a long way of safe autonomy

It is odd how some politicians appear unable to acknowledge that people who violate society's norms are not meaningfully integrated - and that this is irrespective of race, religion, immigration status etc.
