Oh yes I remember! Captain Beatty mentions that books were abridged to combat shorter attention spans, and eventually firemen were put out of business from protecting from fires (due to tech advances) to burning books that complicated lives. Mildred is confused by Guy’s (her husband’s) behaviour.

Thanks! I was having a brain fart. A friend asked me why read an entire book over a plot summary if it’s available and I immediately thought about Fahrenheit 451 👀 I’d encourage him to read it but I know he wouldn’t 😅
