It's hard to say without much more context, but I use the term LARP and cosplay as politically purposeful, and that act duly involves regarding play as serious. When I characterize rich North BA Argentinians building gated communities modelled after US suburbia as LARPers, I'm being serious...

Hmm. If I understand right, it sounds like maybe this is just not a performance? Like, the secretary of defense *is* a soldier, right? As in, the degree by which one could take that as performance is the one that sees a significant difference between being the SoD and being a soldier.

And as much as I try to hide it behind the weight of passion, the more my art turns from play to work due to my current hardships, the more I contend with the creeping feeling of guilt whenever I stop to play or rest - something I feel I need more and more by the day

I get you, but that bad faith reading is harboured mostly by ignorant/regressive circles that hold play in contempt.

I think in any case the problem is that we should dispel the idea that play is a frivolous endeavour (I don't know what specific use instance you referred to in any case)

Good info, TBH the treatment itself looks bad from the stream clips alone so it'd be good to get some clarity, and I don't jack shit about shock collars it seems horrid to me, as is not letting the dog out

This is an extremely weird disavowal of the fact that all play is political. Larping, cosplaying, gaming, they all partake in the process of political imagining, whether purposefully or not.

It being political doesn't make it "less real", and yes; also done by people we politically dislike.

"Cosplaying" and "larping" are real activities done by real people, and using these terms as slang for "pretending to be someone you're not, for political purposes" does indeed alienate those of us who take part in these activities.
