We only use local storage. Even before the explosion of the surveillance state, I wasn’t going to pay some company to keep videos of my stoop up in the cloud.

They’re great if used responsibly. Even in the city (small city), 98% of our videos are of various wildlife, people‘s pets, and deliveries. We have had a few concerning incidents, but most of the time it’s just a person at the wrong house.

I think about this all the time. It feels like the main barrier is how disbursements are made (including is there more compensation for more popular newsletters, and how that works), how administrative overhead is paid for, and how the administration is structured/run.

Yes! There’s also the option of Apple’s alphanumeric passcode that can replace the simple keypad code and can be any length. People (especially journos and activists) really need to do some basic research on securing their devices.

And if can’t/really don’t want to turnoff biometrics, shutdown your device (at least on iOS) it will disable Face/Touch ID on boot.

I’m guessing many don’t know they can set their iOS devices to delete everything after too many bad password attempts or on macOS you can set it up to do the same thing/use Terminal to lock a profile w/ X number of attempts.

Also, always shutdown - TouchID is disabled on boot/restart
