He got lost in that little bunch at the play's outset and no one marked him coming out. To the Steelers it was like he just teleported open.

'Cause that's the likely power center after Trump croaks, is my guess. All these guys are scrambling to position themselves.

Witcher 3 is on sale for $4 right now, $10 with both (incredible) DLCs.
January 4, 2026 at 8:46 PM
I'd say the Witcher 3, which you can get for $3 or $4 right now. Hell of a deal for all the gameplay which comes with it.

I can get behind this, I guess.

Anyway, big congrats to Nobel Peace Laureate Maria Corina Machado for getting the war she practically begged for — only for it to blow up spectacularly in her face.

And of course, to presidenta-por-vida Rodriguez for gaining a powerful new patron and everything else she ever could have wanted

And, knowing his time left is short, he and those around him are driven to escalate and accelerate.

Coupled with the recent reports of oil execs getting ready to head down there, should we assume some kind of "deal" has been reached? Gov't backed "loans" maybe to repair/upgrade infrastructure?
January 3, 2026 at 11:01 PM
I wonder if that suggests they finally were able to come to a "deal"? Trump did suggest US Oil companies would be "reimbursed" for infrastructure repair expenses. Are we going to see taxpayer-backed "loans" to Big Oil?

Absolutely. I have to assume she is very much in the WH's pocket and is saying this on VE state TV to ensure political stability. Were she say anything else, she risks accelerating social and political divisions which could lead (in the worst case) to civil war. And that's the last thing WH wants.
January 3, 2026 at 9:27 PM
I disagree. This is smokescreen--the thing was broadcast on their state TV. This is the message for Venezuelans, with the obvious intention of avoiding social unrest. I would assume this woman is in the WH's pocket, regardless of what she says for local consumption.

Ah, I stand corrected. Thank you.

It's not the peace prize winner. It's Maduro's second in command. We essentially helped them coup VE so we could get mineral rights and get rid of Maduro once and for all.

This guy's statement was for the people of VE (broadcast on state TV). He's convincing them he's on their side. He's lying.
January 3, 2026 at 9:09 PM
I think that's right. (The idea appears to be to quickly establish oil&mineral rights and get that stuff signed.) It probably seems to the WH that this offers the best chance at maintaining VN's stability--to actually exploit these new assets--without much of an occupying force. Not sure it'll work

We were a lot fucking better prepared for it starting
January 3, 2026 at 9:07 AM
Exactly. People program Grok to behave in the way they want it to behave. I want to know who those people are, and have someone get them on the record.
